Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

To all Roman Catholics, this is one of the holiest shrines in the whole World! Right here, at the "Santuario Nacional y Monasterio de las Madres Nazarenas Carmelitas Descalzas de San Joaquín", the holy and miraculous wall painted by an Angolan slave depicting "Jesus Christ in the Cross of His Crucifixion" is kept at the main altar. This wall has survived intact earthquakes, many miracles have been attributed to it and, therefore, adored by all Catholics. It is known as the blessed "El Señor de los Milagros" ("The Lord of the Miracles", in English), the beloved Patron Saint of Lima. Every year, in the month of October, two huge processions leave "Las Nazarenas" and roam the streets of Lima, carrying a litter with a copy of the sacred wall. Touching moments in the lives of the Catholic peruvians. "Las Nazarenas" complex was built in the 18th century, in the rococo style and has been restored, many times, along the centuries. If you are visiting Lima during the month of October, entering "Las Nazarenas" may be almost impossible due to the absolutely endless queues. Around "Las Nazarenas", many shops and street vendors sell the "Turrón", a sticky sweet prepared specially for these festivities. Be ready for crowds in October! Enjoy!

This is one of the most impressive churches I have ever seen in Latin America. I highly recommend it regardless of whether you are religious or not

This church in the middle of old Lima keeps the image of El Señor de Los Milagros, the patron of Lima that goes on a procession once a year in the month of October every year attracting over a million followers.

Must be very impressive... if you can get inside. We were within opening jours but they were closed for no apparent good reason. We knocked and asked... and we’re simply asked to leave the premise. Quite frustrating as we observe El Señor de Los Milagros and came all the way from Canada

We got to go in during the Christmas week so the services and choirs were amazing. We stayed through the whole service because it was so beautiful.

One of the most beautiful churches in Lima and home to El Senor de los Milagros, the painting of the Crucified Christ that has endured hundreds of years amidst earthquakes and several destruction attempts during colonial times. The painting goes on procession every October when thousands congregate to pray and follow him through the streets of Lima. As we visited in January, we were also able to see the huge Nativity that was placed in a separate room.

If you are into history, architecture, or religion this place is perfect for you. it is very close to downtown Lima, it is an impressive and very old church with lot of history. A traditional and sacred place for most of the limenians, so if you are in downtown and have some free time do not miss it. Advise: the area is not very safe so do not go after 5 pm.

I struggle with this. Too many churches and cathedrals I think make me tired. All overly lavish. Yes it's well decorated and great to look at but aren't they all... If you enjoy this sort of thing then you should definitely visit otherwise there is nothing unique in this church. Another example of excessive wealth when the country was extremely poor.

This is another beautiful church in Lima. It was built in 17th century and faced a devastating earthquake in 1655. It was rebuilt after that. The paintings inside the church are beautiful. The painting of crucifixion looked best to me.

This is a small and beautiful church - very inviting. One is everything but overwhelmed and yet the intrinsic gold trappings and artful décor loom large. This is a must include visit on any tour of Lima.
