Not a Place for Foreigners
Mar. 2020
My husband and I went shopping here today. It is a rather seedy area. Although I wear a cross-body handbag, I was mugged, thrown to the ground, my purse ripped off, leaving me covered with blood with injuries to my temple, knees & elbows. I had the last laugh, though, since my purse contained only about US$5 and I quickly cancelled my credit cards and disabled my iphone. I hate that I lost my camera with pictures of Lima and Cusco but it could have been much worse.

VERY INEXPENSIVE CLOTHES (cotton), FABRICS, HERBS
Jan. 2020
We went this past january to gamarra. Which is like a market place where you can find many things for very cheap. It's a little crazy going there so please be aware that this is not a good area of Lima to be at so you need to leave your jewelry and expensive cell phone at home and carry your purse right next to you and just the necessary stuff. But it's worth the time to go.

They said it’s like “dark market” but found the best Charapita Restaurant ;)

Cannot recall the restaurant name, but this is a small, friendly and cozy restaurant that sells the best Juane I’ve tried in several years.... yummy 😋 if someone is from Iquitos or ever been in Iquitos know what I am referring to yummy 😋
Just be careful when go there, I’ve heard it’s not very safe and better if you’re no wear any jewelry or bring big purses with you when go to Gamarra. You can also find nice and cheap clothing there.

Couldn't get there!!!
Jul. 2019
I really wanted to visit this area. After asking at the tourist info area about how to get here, my husband and daughter became very nervous, not because of what information was given but about the hesitation they both heard in the voice of the girl giving us the advice. After this, I tried to book a tour to get to the area. I was told by the company I contacted that tours were currently unavailable because the area was in the process of "being cleaned up" and tourists were not being allowed in. I am not sure if we would have been turned away had we gone on our own, but at this point, there was no way I would get my husband and daughter to go with me. So disappointed... Not sure how I could have gotten more information from a local?

Gamarra witchcraft market
Jun. 2019 • Business
Ooooo, I love it so so much. Here we can see the spiritual side of Peru. This is mostly dark market, where you have everything for you need like a witch or only like some curious visitor. You can find there everything what you can imagine (incl witches and shamans who are doing rituals on street, as well tarot reading plus you have there a lost of stuffs what you can see or buy as suvenires.

Location: Like you have Gamarra station. If you look for left and right side, you will see massive bags with herbs. (You need follow herbs and occults instruments hanging on sides of the doors because this market is mix with normal food market...) And its really around.... Isn't possible that you will miss it.

Transport: a lot UBER taxi drivers said to me: "This is so dangerous place...!!!" yes it is after 5pm but until 5 its okay yeah- safety place, but you need be careful about your bag and money.

Place is full of traffic. Inside you can go but outside is it massive hell. I would like to recommend that follow the rails and go one stop before Gamarra station - isnt far- maybe 4min walk and call taxi from that place...Or some side gate. Or go to station....

Price: ok...

What you can see there- a 10000 herbs, spices, flowers, a plenty candels, swords, rip dry animals, earth from cemetery, oils, cards, human skull..., skulls from everything what have skull... :D ,voodoo and hoodoo stuffs, as well for brujas (black witches) everything what you need, for white witches as well....You can find there really everything what you can imagine...

O.H.- 11am-5pm....5 and later no-no...

Great quality fakes!
Mar. 2019 • Friends
It’s a great place with great fakes! When you first walk in you can find countless of great fakes at good prices. Some examples include: Gucci, Supreme, and Louis Vuitton. Although these brands are not the most common there, it would be very easy to find them. Most stores sell a variety of common jeans and clothes that are usually meant for locals. If you dig a bit deeper you will find countless of great fake designer clothing.

A trip into working Lima
Oct. 2018 • Couples
This is best with a guide to show you all the unique and wonderful areas. All aspects of clothing manufacture purchasing is here from raw material, appliques, sewing, decal and the end product are here mixed in with spice stores, witch doctors, herbs for religious purposes. A real chaos of stores, people and very busy and loud.

Witches Market
May 2018 • Friends
Nestled between a large textile market lies the largest indoor witches market in Peru, located 5minutes from the Gamarra metro station. The market sells frog blended smoothies, pollen, exotic fruits, dried llama fetuses, monkey skulls and all the ingredients that a witch might need.

From the outside, the market looks like your regular crowded local shopping area – when you start seeing burgers selling exotic game meat like snakes, crocodiles on the sidewalk that you know you are near the market. Watch your belongings and ask the stall owners for permission to take photos.
