Chocolate land

We stopped in Cacaotal during a food tour and learnt so much about chocolate thanks to a very passionate lady who knows pretty much everything about cacao and chocolate… even things we didn't even imagine existed. For sure we won't eat chocolate the same as before now

More than a specialty shop
Dec. 2019
If you love chocolate, or coffee, or chocolate AND coffee, don't miss a visit to El Cacaotal. Flavor bombs, a selection of wonderful flavorless and pairings, a PhD level of expertise, deep familiarity with their sources and a welcoming atmosphere makes this tiny shop like a visit to one of Harry Potter's Diagon Alley shops - maybe the wand-maker.

A Unique and Amazing Experience!
May 2019 • Friends
We accidentally stumbled into El Cocoatal while wandering around Barranco one evening, and it was one of the highlights of our stay in Lima. The selection of internationally acclaimed chocolates was fabulous, but the best aspect of our visit was our time with the shop owner. She asked us about our chocolate preferences, and upon discovering our limited experience with chocolate, she spent at least 45 minutes guiding us on our chocolate journey. She allowed us to sample a variety of chocolates while explaining their notes and origins. Her enthusiasm for chocolate is so contagious! She’s from the States and told us about her experiences working with chocolate farmers while working on her Masters thesis—so impressive! Each member of our group identified their own unique chocolate preferences, and we brought so much home to share with our friends and family. Love the place and love the owner! We hope others discover this spot and enjoy it as much as we did.

A must stop for any chocolate lover!
Mar. 2019 • Couples
We stopped by El Cacaotal with our friends during our visit to Lima. They were recommended the shop by another friend. It was such a worth while trip. Amanda let us sample chocolates from all over Peru. She gave us an education as to the difference between chocolate flavors and why certain regions taste different. We all walked away with our favorite chocolate and types we were not expecting to like. If you are in Lima, would definitely make a trip to this store. 👍🏻😃

Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate from all over Peru! Artisanal Chocolate! Craft Chocolate!
Aug. 2018 • Friends
Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate from all over Peru! Artisanal Chocolate! Craft Chocolate! If you are a chocolate lover, a chocolate hater, a chocolate take-it-or-leave-it-er, then this is the shop for you. AJ, the owner, takes it as a personal challenge to find a chocolate from Peru that you will love. She speaks fluent English and Spanish so you can ask her about chocolate or cacao or El Cacaotal (chocolate farm), and she will be able to tell you all about it. This place is above Veggie Pizza at Colina 128. It's also for the chocolate snob, the chocolate expert, the chocolate maker, the chocolate baker, the chocolate buyer, the chocolate seller, the chocolate gift giver, the chocolate eater!

El Cacaotal, the Peruvian Chocolate Shop, also offers classes on sustainable chocolate. You can learn all about the areas of Peru that produce chocolate, the small businesses that grow chocolate, the ladies who make the chocolate, the artisans who invent chocolate blends, the dreamers who make dreamy chocolate, the impassioned who create chocolate -- from the heart.

A great artisinal chocolate shop in Lima, offering chocolate bars made by small producers all over Peru. The owner, AJ, is a walking encylcopedia on Peruvian chocolate. The shop is a 15-20 minute walk from the JW Marriott in a Bohemian part of town, and easy to miss because it is inside a coffee shop. Highly recommended.
