Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

In Lima's charming artist district, Barranco, you'll find plenty of fine art galleries and museums. That's great, of course, but these kinds of places might cater more to the well-off and educated population.

Luckily, the authorities have encouraged local street artists to decorate parts of the neighborhood, and suddenly, art descends to eye level.

Especially the street running between the beach and the district - Bajada de los Banos - boasts many captivating murals. A must-see if you're in the area.

Very cool view into the past while enjoying street art of today. Felt very safe even at 9pm at night and able to walk the walkway from place to ocean view.

Found in the Barranco District, this is a bohemian walkway leading down to the beach. There are people selling arts & crafts on both sides of the walkway.

Together with the Plaza Municipal, this is the place of Barranco that perhaps best preserves the atmosphere of the past, when the neighborhood was the main beach of Lima inhabitants..
As the name says, in fact, it was the pedestrian "Descent to the Baths", the way to plunge into the sea below (the other way was the funicular, now almost completely disappeared).
We visited the "Bajada" in the austral winter (August), when nobody dived into the sea. But I doubt that someone dives even in the austral summer, because right where the walkway ends there are the remains of metal pylons sunk in the shallow water of the shore, and a sign warns that they are dangerous because featuring sharp edges.
However, even without taking a bath, the route is interesting. The highest stretch of the "Bajada" passes under the so-called Bridge of Sighs, then is lined with old, picturesque residential buildings, now partly restored and used as pubs, eateries, etc. .
A not pleasant feature of this stretch is the dung of birds that perch on the trees above the "Bajada"; dung that, given the desert climate of Lima, is never washed by rain; probably it's only summarily swept.
The last part of the walkway - now close to the sea - is fenced and roofed. After overpassing the coastal highway, it ends at the beach.
Overall, for those visiting Barranco the "Bajada" is a feature not to be missed.

Path that leads to the beaches in the Barranco neighborhood. Very busy and safe even at night. Many foreign tourists.
