This is the square where it all happens, the centre away from the river. Sit still, watch the people and listen to the din of the mototaxis over the bells from the cathedral.

Going to the Plaza de Armas was amazing during the day, and especially on Palm Sunday, but the night life was what I was really drawn to. Going at night seemed to create a completely different atmosphere. There were people out selling food, trinkets, toys,...More

And really is a main square... you will find more people during the nights. Different activities, street sellers, people walking around the plaza... It's located just in the center of the city, and a very emblematic place for this city.

After reading a few comments on the main square I am disappointed to find out that everyone ignores the bizarre funny detail of its monument. There is a plaque showing a freize in high relief displaying a battle between Chinese and Peruvians, battle which never...More

Not the nicest plaza ever but quite central and close to Malecon. Around the plaza you can find the cathedral which seems the highest building of Iquitos and the casa de fierro, designed by Gustave Eiffel. Tourist information is around the corner on the right...More

Walked here from my hotel, spoke to some locals and tourists, and took a few photos. Interesting but not spectacular. Seemed to be a safe area in broad daylight.

Nearby some cool shops, cafe's and hotels. Near the river, a safe area to meet in and to walk to the rest of the amenities. Probably the main tourist area with the cleanest presentation of the city.

A fun place to hang out an people watch. Be careful of the street vendors, one sold me a bottle of water that had the seal broken. Probably refilled with tap water.

Just sit there and let the atmosphere catch you! There are always people or music and the place is nice to let your mind relax

Nice little plaza in the center and has a nice fountain that looks stunning at night but it is very crowded and there are lot of street vendors

I didn't see any high end jewelry in Iquitos. However your best bet is probably along and under the Malecon, which is the walkway/plaza that runs along the river.
