Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Connects the plazas. Our guide told us the gates were not to defend the city. Just decorative. Up the hill is another plaza and the city market.

It’s noticeable but nothing special. The markets either side of the arch were more interesting. Move on.

A small simple arch close to Plaza de San Francisco, on the way to Mercado de San Pedro, one can not miss it strolling around in Cusco. It is nice but nothing special.

A wonderful piece of historical architecture near to the central plaza. This arch is anything but an eyesore and is actually very aesthetic.

The Arch of Santa Clara represented the union between Peru and Bolivia which lasted just 3 years. This archway is one of the few representations of that short union. The archway is absolutely incredible, built from solid stone and dauntingly large. Atop the archway sits the statue of Santa Clara. The archway is the major access point from the Plaza de Armas to the impressive Basilica de la Merced. It is worth walking through this archway while in Cusco and admiring it's construction.

Constructed in 1836 to celebrate a short lived alliance between Bolivia and Columbia (the following disastrous loss to Chile has created ill feelings between Bolivia and Columbia to this day), Arco de Santa Clara is the gateway to a vibrant Cusco street scene at Plaza San Francisco and the area just south and east of the arch, including San Pedro Market. This is one of the best places in the historical center to people watch actual colorful Peruvians. The design is by architect José García Bryce and is modeled on ancient Roman arcos.

You can't miss the arch, so beautiful. It almost splits the town in two halfs. Definitely a must see.

We stumbled upon this several times during our time in cusco. Quietly understated I found it a charming piece of architecture

Lovely archway that leads to the market. To the right of my photo is a boys school. There is a quaint little tile that tells you the name on the archway.
Beware of cars as they scoot through here - use the pedestrian path.
Wheelchair friendly.

This arch isn't one of those "you shouldn't miss it" attractions; you simply "can't" miss it if you're doing anything in the town center. It's really pretty, but it's also a busy part of town, so it's hard to linger and admire it. You can get a few shots though on your way to and from the plaza.
