Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A small site, easy to access from the road. This location does not afford the dramatic views of Cusco like Sacsayhuaman or Tambomachay. However, it is a Cultural Heritage (Patrimonio Cultural) site and the location of a mysterious altar within a tunnel as well as an intriguing monolith. Worth the visit unless you are incredibly short on time.

This is a natural cavern where you can walk under the rock. It leads to a slab where you can imagine various rituals taking place. There is a multiple ticket entry for $130 soles that you can buy to visit various sites. Its very convenient. Our taxi operator helped us buy it. This was a start to various archaeology sites and the mysteries of the Inca.

This is an archaeological site near Cuzco, and is one of the largest Huacas (Holy Places). The Quechua name “Qenko” means labyrinth, and in ancient times it was believed that the place was built to invoke Kaypacha – a legendary snake who gives birth to life.
The Spanish actually named this place, but almost completely destroyed it, so its purpose is not known. It was believed to be a place where human sacrifices and mummification took place. What we saw was a complex of subterranean canals, passageways, and a semi-circular structure – pretty much in ruins. Some areas of the Canyon were very narrow, and we could only pass one at a time. We spent half an hour here.
It was nice, but skip it if you are short on time.

Hike from Cusco to Sacsayhuaman and continue only about 15 minutes further to explore Q'enqo. Small ruins but worth the visit on the way back to Cusco. Easy to hail a taxi back to town.

Another still essential site accompanied by a guide. Without this, you will miss the subtlety of where surgery, rituals or mummification were performed. Moreover, it is also the place where the mummies of nobles were kept, but there you need more imagination.
A little visited but very interesting site with a guide. Without... it's less

Our tour guide combined this with our visit it Saqsaywaman, and I found it very interesting. Q'engo means zigzag or labyrinth and that helps to understand the design of the temple and the canals. This is smaller than the other ruins in the area, but if you have a good tour guide, you will appreciate it much more.

Q'engo is probably our favorite ruins site around Cusco (not counting Sacred Valley). It is a small site, but quite different in that you have an underground labyrinth, and you can see the actual spots where the Incan mummies were prepared. Weird thinking you're standing at a table where ancient Incan Kings were being mummified. Best visited with a guide who can tell you the stories of what you're seeing - only takes a short visit as the ruins aren't very big, so visit as part of a larger tour - preferably private of small group for the best experience. Not huge or impressive, but quite interesting nonetheless, and very near the road for an easy visit.

We had bought the Boleto Turistico and hired a taxi for the morning to take us to all the ruin sites near Cusco. We mostly wanted to see Tambomachay and Sacsayhuaman, but seeing as we has the Boleto, we figured we might as well do them all. Q'enko was a pleasant surpirse! The site is very small, but there is a cave that is quite interesting. Definitely make a quick stop if you already have the Boleto.

This is a smallish Inca site on the outskirts of Cusco with an interesting cave within which are carved altars on which the, very occasional, human sacrifices were conducted. Not something you will see every day, interesting, well presented. Like so many Inca sites, you do need someone to tell you what it is you are looking at and what it is all about. Well worth the trip.

Hi, can you remember how much you paid the guide ??

Sorry to be so late on this one I've been travelling. We paid a travel agent who set up transportation & guides at all our locations so i don't know how much each place was. Never used a travel agent and I travel all the time, but they were so good and so reasonable I may looking at that option more often. If it isn't too late, give them a try I think you will be shocked at how much they do for so little. Wonderful trip to Peru - have a great time.
