A chance to see how the local people use the salty water which comes from the mountains to distill out a wide selection of salt products. I can thoroughly recommend both the rose salt and the health salt.

This is a little bit off the beaten track but well worth the bumpy ride through little (rarely seen) villages and fields. Located in the middle of a large ravine, you can walk right next to these wonders of the world- basins of salt situated...More

I was sorprised with this place. Its really nice and you can learn how the incas used to make salt, how they prepared the ground in order to get this natural salt, incredible!. You can buy it, 3 bags of 1 kilogram each for $3.(really...More

We stopped at the Maras Salt Mines on our way back to Cusco from the Sacred Valley - I am so glad we did! What a process - each of these "pools" is individually owned and worked by local families. These pools are near the...More

We visited the Salt Mines or Salinas de Maras on the same day we visited Moray. The road to reach it was rough and unpaved, but our tour guide knew the way and it was worth it. The incredible salt mines, dug into the mountainside...More

Came here as part of a tour that included nearby Moray. By itself not worth the drive from Cusco, especially given the unpaved roads in the area. However, if you are nearby it is well worth the 10 soles admission. Only takes 30 minutes but...More

Beautiful trek up from Urubamba. The salt mines are incredible to look at, and understand how the workers produce salt. They work so hard, and do not stop throughout the day.

Moray and Salinas are a little far from everywhere but definately worth visiting on the way from Cusco to MachuPicchu. If you do not have a rent car, you will need to take a taxi that can take you to both places for 50 soles....More

These salt mines are amazing, the workers just keep on working around the tourists. You have to walk along a narrow path and it is a sheer drop. Great to see.

Hi, you said you purchased salt. How much did you pay for 500g of salt? Did you buy both course and fine salt? They sell it in Lima in 500g bags for about 6 Sol each. Thanks
