Interesting exhibits
Jun. 2019
There were a couple of exhibitions on when I visited in June. They were interesting, and it's great to see some modern Peruvian works after seeing all the history in Cusco. This Museum is included on the main tourist ticket, so if you've got a ticket, check it out.

Again, I am here...
Nov. 2018
Located at the Town Hall and close to Plaza de Armas and the Cusco Cathedral, this is a different museum than most of the others. Predominately modern paintings, you’ll find an interesting cross section of work from local artists Antonio Olave, Edilberto Mérida and Hilario Mendívil exhibiting landscapes, historical interpretative pieces and abstract work. There are also works here from other artists, both domestic and international showing an impressive depth of work.

Amazing Textile Artist Maximo Laura on Display
May 2019 • Couples
This is an amazing, albeit small museum. This is extremely difficult to find, as it is completely unmarked from the exterior. It is just inside the center door on the north side of Plaza Regocijo on San Juan de Dios. I believe it is some kind of municipal building. I have read the negative reviews, but I believe it has changed for the better. The room on the left when you enter is now featuring a show of Maximo Laura's textile art. The art works are labeled with some info (in Spanish). Maximo Laura weaves his modern art. The brightly colored designs feature an abstract display of images borrowed from indigenous pottery and weaving filtered through the artist vivid imagination. The result is stunning and unlike anything I have seen before. True to other reviews, there is another room on right. There are some interesting paintings and prints, but they are not labeled with the name of the artist or the art work. However, Maximo Laura's art is worth a visit.

Worth a Quick Look

I agree with the October 31 review. The museum is close to Plaza Armas and is basically free with the tourist ticket. Hard to be too critical of the place under those circumstances.

We had some time to kill and stopped in. They had a few interesting paintings in the main room. They have a second room with local art that is for sale. I think we spent 15 minutes there.

Strange art in a plain space
Dec. 2018 • Couples
This museum was small and strange. There were a couple rooms full of random works of modern art with no descriptions. It wasn't a total waste, as we had free entry on the tourist ticket, but I would not recommend going out of your way to see this place.

A pleasant little art museum

I think many of the reviews are a bit harsh, since virtually everyone goes there on the tourist ticket and thus doesn’t pay extra. It’s modest but it’s not like it’s hard or time-consuming to get to or to walk around. When I visited, there was an exhibition of historical photos of Cusco and I enjoyed all of them.

Not much to see here

We toured this museum on the Boleto Turistico but unless you have that, enjoy the plaza instead. Two galleries off the entry way...at the time one with bizarre clown themed paintings and the other with some macabre sculptures. The colonial exterior was pretty but the museum space was dark and unappealing.

30% worth it

Hit or miss. I love contemporary art but the first exhibit that we saw honestly looked like a high school kid’s sketchbook... or doodles on the algebra homework crumpled up at the bottom of his backpack. But the second exhibit displayed incredible, hyper-realistic watercolor paintings of landscapes, Inca stonework, and indigenous people that made my jaw drop.

We went inside just because it was included in the Cusco ticket
Luckily it is small and easy to get out as there is nothing to see there. It's a joke

ONLY go if youve got time to waste

It was a rainy last day & the museum was free with the Boleto Touristico. Thank goodness as if you'd had to pay you'd feel cheated.
But it got me out of the rain for 30 minutes i wont get back.
The exhibits are very few & far between, of questionable quality, with a few exceptions.

The building itself is a beautiful large colonial with some Inca walls but there are more offices than exhibits & it looks rundown. The toilets are shocking with no door locks, no paper. Poor compared to mamy other public exhibits in Cusco
