- Kevin ACuyahoga Falls, Ohio136 contributionsGreat views, a workout due to altitude; Be Prepared. After hiking the Inca Trail, went on tour while staying in Cusco in 2019; can't remember the company. Picked up early am. Once parked we were given that short speech of what to expect. Hiking in altitude always an adventure, but after the Inca Trail this was second nature. Great views. Main plateau is 16,500 feet according to our guide company. The top of the "general public" crest 17,0010. And yes, the colors are there; though some pics you see on ads have been touched up.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 13 March 2024
- EmBerlin, Germany105 contributionsStunning view, worth the short (but strenuous) hikeThis is a relatively newly discovered site, which was hidden under the perma-ice until quite recently. As far as I've gathered, there is no way to visit independently, without a guide. The drive is a bit exhausting, about 3-4 hours from Cusco centre, so the tours would pick you up very early and return you late in the afternoon. Luckily, most tours include both breakfast (which is very early) and lunch (which is late, so consider bringing a snack if you think you'll need it). The bus will get you fairly close to the site itself, leaving only a short trail and then the way up to the top of the mountain with its stunning 360° view. However, despite the short path, the height makes it a rather strenuous walk. My advice is to leave yourself some time in Cusco to adjust to the altitude before you go on this hike, and perhaps do some easier trekks first. If you're not in the best shape but still wants to enjoy the view at the top, there is the option to be led up on a horse back, or rent a dirt bike or an ATV. Due to the height, you will face both the scorching sun and cold winds, so bring comfortable trekking shoes, a hat, enough water, sunscreen and a warm layer. The guides also recommend a rain jacket, as the weather can be unpredictable and turn in a short span. Note that some tours offer the possibility to continue the treck to the Red Valley. This is at least another 30 min, but seems doable with some time strain. A word of caution: This might well be the most popular site for instagramers, perhaps even more so than Machu Picchu, so be prepared to stand in line in front of the best photographic spots for the opportunity to snap some photos.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 10 May 2024
- Heidy Charlotte1 contributionEach step to the summit was an enriching experience. The Terra Quechua Peru team not only took us to the Montaña de Colores, but immersed us in a profound cultural experience. Every step to the top was full of discoveries, from the unique flora and fauna to the changes in the landscape that reveal centuries of geological history. I highly recommend this agency not only for their professionalism and knowledge, but for their commitment to sustainable tourism that respects and protects this incredible natural environment.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 July 2024

The only real issue would be altitude sickness, but once at the summit - involving a 4 km walk uphill - the sight is breathtaking. If altitude sickness becomes a problem, there are horses to rent for $20.00 US one way for the majority of the 4 km. ytrek.

Amazing views super cool hike and totally worth it, however it is super crowded and can be somewhat overwhelming. People are puking left and right being carried up and down... this is super high altitude people, make sure you have had multiple days to acclimate in cusco. Take it slow and if the weather is good you will be left with some amazing views while being surrounded by 200+ people all clamoring for a great instagram photo. Super crazy but beautiful. I got the trip for free through a job otherwise i dont know if I would suggest it. There are so many other amazing treks around the area.

We went with Flashpacker connect - one of the only companies that gets you there early, and when we arriveed at the top there were only about 8 tourists around. By the time we came down there were hordes of people jostling for position. Bexare of the difficulty and don't hesitate to ask your guide for oxygen if you need it.

We did the rainbow mountain, with terra quechua peru, and we want to thank and recommend them for their excellent service, seriousness, punctuality, quality of service, excellent guide, the breakfast and lunch were very good and the driver and punctuality were good.
This hike is a bit more challenging than most others in the region due to the altitude. Don't underestimate it and be sure to acclimatize before you start. We really enjoyed having a very professional guide, who showed us some places that were not on the official trail. The scenery is really beautiful and it is an experience I will never forget.!

traveled there with a guide named Coca. The company name is Coca Tours. A small, intimate group and recreation in the mountain while climbing and learning about the community's lifestyle and the significance of living at an altitude of over 5,000 meters.
It is strongly recommended but be very attentive to the body, make proper preparation and take a professional guide who also channel a medical response.
For those in a bad situation horses can be taken almost to the edge. From there you can see the mountain of colors, but not in the

Everything depends on weather. The mountain is high more than 5k, it climbed up 2 hours, but didn't see almost anything, because the mountain was foggy. In addition, The atmosphere is also ruined by those lazy fat "boars" carried by poor horses up the mountain.

The rainbow mountains are single handedly the second most important tour to take after Machu Picchu when in Cusco. Despite some negative press of the colours being deceptively bland, if you go on a clear day then this misconception will be debunked. Most tour agencies will touch-up and enhance their photos, so just keep in mind that it is not quite as vibrant as a literal rainbow. The hike is easy to do and takes just 2 hours to the top which is around 5000m. Prepare for bad weather as a sudden downpour may occur at any time. The tours are often cheap and you should expect to pay around 60 soles for the whole day. I would strongly recommend too that you visit the Red Valley on the return journey for just 10 soles extra.

I paid the tour operator 60soles plus 10soles entrance fee to the park. Try not to be dumb and pay more, the tourist agencies make the prices higher if they see an European. I just used one of many agencies at Plaza de Armas, all of them offer exactly the same.
Its an all-day trip which leaves from Cusco at 3-4 a.m. and goes back around 6 p.m., provides breakfast and lunch in a local small restaurant close to the Mountain.
The views are not as on the pictures in the Internet (they are most of the times photoshopped) but indeed beautiful! The walk is just about 5kms but it took me more than 2hrs to reach it - probably because of the altitude around 5.000m and the coca leaves didn't really help to the shortness of breathing - better wait a few days in Cusco before going there (it was on my third day in Cusco). Anybody who feels worse can take a horse to get up there (20-50soles) on any point of the trekking, the Quechua people with horses are everywhere around. There are "toilets" every 1km and lot of local people selling snacks and coca tea. The mountain is so amazing and I was lucky with the weather - it was sunny all the time, but wearing the jacket and the cap on the top is a must. Also the sunscreen SPF50 is a must, as well as trekking shoes.

Saludos

Olá, pode me passar a agencia que te levou? Grata e quais o valores na epoca?
Written 6 January 2019
