This is one the worlds highest airports in the world at 10,860'. The air is definitely thinner up here. The airport is right in the middle of the city and houses are built right next to the runway. I've never seen that before anywhere! The runway itself is one of the shortest I've ever seen. Hey, it's the closest airport to Machu Piccu, so make the best of it!

BOTTOM LINE: This is a very small airport. Baggage claim is simple and catching a taxi is easy. MY RATING: 6/10

I've flown into and out of Cusco airport twice. It is a small airport with minimal facilites, operating over-capacity, so don't expect fancy lounges, awesome food etc. It is also an airport situated at high altitude -- over 11,000 feet -- surrounded by mountain peaks, so plan for possible delays... if clouds roll in, if a 20 mph wind comes up from the wrong direction, etc. your plane will be delayed, and the airport will get more crowded. Complain if you want, but I felt happier to know they were flying in reasonable conditions so I wouldn't be splattered over a mountain. If you're concerned about delayed flights, third world amenities, etc., take a bus -- that helps with soroche. Cusco and the Sacred Valley are well worth airport issues.

Once you land to Cusco, you will enter the airport..no immigration you go straight for you baggage and you are out. Many taxi drivers will offer you their services. To the city centre Plaza de Armas you should pay 3-5$.

City centre to the airport we paid 10Soles /3usd/ the journey takes around 15-20min

Check in for your flight needs to be done through little kiosk in the terminal, where you get your boarding pass as well as the baggage tag. Then you go to your flight company counter to drop your bags.

Small airport but it should be much better as it is the gate for Cusco. International departure is very small and there is no service. No coffee but good there is toilet. Come earlier as airport is very busy in the airlines disk, security check & immigration. Taxi trip to the city is 40 Sol and from hotel to airport around 20 Sol.

Well ... the airport is not very big and many people use it mostly to do back & forth trips between Cusco & Lima and ... you're in the middle of some very high mountains, the weather conditions can change very quickly and there is a limited parking space for the planes and the planes can only take off & land in the same directio by using the same runway ... so ... you can have some enormous delays but, relax & take your time, you are in South America. Everything will be solved!!
Staff was very nice, we had a 3 hour delay with a connecting flight in Lima and ... no problem at the end

No issues when we arrived from Lima, ATM machines available near the exit. Our pre-arranged airport transfer was waiting for us. On our way back to Lima, we arrived at the airport 3 hours prior. After getting our boarding passes, we proceeded to security, sat and waited. Only one cafe so expectedly, long queues if you wish to grab something to eat. There are vending machines as well. The seats were reasonably comfortable. We kept an eye on our departure boarding gates as these kept changing. We eventually boarded on a different gate from what's on our boarding passes. There were 2 queues depending on the seat numbers. Higher numbers boarded first and then followed by the lower numbers.

Firstly, why is the VIP lounge not for Amex Platinum members? 26$ US each for a chair, coffee and some snacks is ridiculous. This is Peru. We could get a suite in a hotel for a night for the same amount. There is no airport wifi either.
We bought a very expensive bottle of water and sat in a cafe to recharge our devices.
Check in was fast and courteous but that’s LATAM. The airport is really lacking services.

We flew in and out of this airport 4 times in 2 weeks and the flight was delayed every single time (no special weather conditions). If you board on time, the flight can still wait on the tarmac for 30 mins or more. Be very very careful about connections out of Lima when coming from Cusco!

As others noted the gates can change without notice so you need to watch the departure board constantly. Our latest delayed flight did not go on the board even 30 mins before scheduled departure but I got the info from a generic flight status app that it would be delayed when it wasn’t displayed to passengers anywhere.

There are almost no facilities inside the airport so get food before going through security. If you want premium priced alpaca gear you have 4 stores to choose from.

The only plus was the security line was insanely fast even though they make people take off coats and shoes etc.

We arrived 100 mins before boarding for our flight and were given our boarding passes. We then sat in the departure lounge for 1 hour waiting to board and were getting suspicious that there were no other passengers waiting when the plane should have boarded 20 mins ago. Finally asked guy at desk and he said there was a gate change and they were in final boarding call. He was adamant that it was announced on the PA. What rubbish they did not have any announcements whilst we were waiting and definitely not in English.
Very poor service for the non Spanish speaking tourist

The airport is way too small for the amount of people travelling there. The organisation dosn't work at all. Our flight was delayed and they didn't make any announcement. They quietly changed the departure time and the gate so that everyone was confused. No one of the employees could give us some useful advice.

I would suggest the airport invests in technology, so that passengers can follow the schedule changes on screen.
