Abel was the only tour operator who would help me plan a solo Ausengate Expedition at my preferred pace. aB expeditions:

When I was first planning my trip to Peru, I was convinced I wanted to trek independently. I wanted to hike at my own pace, as I have plenty of experience solo trekking. However, I had never hiked or slept at the elevations on the Ausengate route (up to 17,000 feet). AB Expeditions was the only tour company willing to help create a custom tour for just me, allowing me to go at my preferred pace, while having a guide, meals prepared by a chef, and a horseman to carry supplies. At these elevations, and in a climate with extreme weather changes, I found the team invaluable. Although I personally did not have problems with altitude sickness at 17,000 feet, clear bailout plans were available, including transportation logistics if that were to happen.

I prefer longer days of trekking, which AB Expeditions accommodated. Arriving to camp at dusk with storms in the loom, I really appreciated having my tent already set up, and dinner prepared. Yes, I like the solitude of hiking alone, but the guide service provided plenty of solitude, and companionship if I so desired.
Most importantly, what sets AB Expeditions off from the other companies is that they specialize in Ausengate. I realized this when we ate in cabins that they themselves built, and tents were set up within permanent huts for more shelter. The winds and weather changes at this altitude are really aggressive, and I was very thankful for these shelters. The cost for a team on Ausengate is so reasonable that it would be hard to justify NOT using one, and it is clearly safer. AB Expeditions created a really unique experience, and I can say this is one of the most beautiful world treks I have ever completed.

In addition to the Ausengate trek, AB Expeditions helped me plan a few other excursions, and helped navigate transportation logistics. I will definitely use AB Expeditions in the future for some other trekking routes when I return to Peru. I give them my highest recommendation.

We have just completed the 4 day Inca trail with Edwar and Aiben as our tour guides and had the most wonderful and amazing experience of our lives.
AB expeditions are a wonderful company which I cannot reccomend enough.
The entire team, from porters, to cooks, to tour guides were happy, kind, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly, organised, professional and they went above and beyond to make the experience great for us. AB look after their staff well, all porters were provided with a uniform that was in good condition. Communication was excellent throughout from inquiring about the trail, through booking, paying, daily briefings and it is clear how much planning goes into organising this activity, how well things ran and the attention to little details. The food was fantastic, lots of options at meals and snacks, and the team were flexible to accommodate different dietary requests. Being the only English speaking people in the group, we had another tour guide allocated to us, Edwar who was fantastic, funny and had so much wisdom and insight to share along the trail and information at the sites we passed. The service with AB was unbelievable, 5*, thank you for enabling us to visit your mountains, see Machu Picchu, and making this experience possible for us.
After our trail, we also did Rainbow mountain with AB. We left early in the morning and got there first thing, before other people arrived and this allowed us to enjoyed the views before it became hectic with queues of people. We felt reassured as the team had oxygen cylinder just incase it was needed due to the extremely high Altitude.

We booked with AB expeditions because we were so impressed by the organisation on the website and the information they provided us with about the itinerary, as well as the local programmes that they are involved in funded via the tours. This translated into our experience doing the inca trail - everything was so well organised and communicated with us from the very beginning of where, when and how things would work before, during, and after. We met our tour guide jacob the night before our trek and it quickly came apparent we would be adding a 5th member to our group of 4. The entire trek, especially for me, would not have been possible without jacob encouraging me and walking with me when i was struggling on the steep up hills, reassuring me that going at my own pace was ok and that’s how i’d make it. Playing cards in the evening, sharing different life stories and snacks, and swapping music tastes made the trek so much more enjoyable thanks to jacob. As well as this, the information he shared with us at each archaeological site was so interesting and gave us an insight into the life of people around the time of the inca’s.
We had an incredible, hard working team of 9 porters and a chef surrounding us that made our lives so easy and enjoyable thought out breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sergio, Guillermo, Luciano, Adriel, Daniel, Jesus, Teodoro, Leonidas, Fortunato. (I think this is how you spell all the names I apologise if it’s incorrect). They are the most amazing people and made our experience incredible, there’s is nothing I can think of they could’ve done differently as they all went above and beyond our expectations to make us feel comfortable and relaxed between the trekking. We really hope the porters and our tour guide are well equipped for the trek and compensated fairly beyond the tips we gave them for the amount of work they do. How Sergio managed to cater to 2 vegetarians and a vegan whilst still producing a huge amount of delicious food in the most basic conditions in mountains is a real talent.
Thank you to the whole team around us who made this one in a lifetime experience so amazing, we are all so grateful to each and everyone of you that made it possible.

Me and my partner did the 4 day inca trail with AB expeditions from 15th - 19th March. We were the only 2 in our group, which initially we were a little disappointed about, but it turned out to be a huge bonus.

Our guide was Jacob who was fantastic. He was really friendly, accommodating and very sociable and throughout the trip shared with us lots of his experience of his country, so much so that we felt we had made a new friend by the end of our trip.

It took us a while to decide who to do the inca trail with as there are so many different companies to choose from and to be honest I was almost sceptical as AB were one of the cheaper options. We had read good reviews on trip advisor however and it soon became apparent why. From start to finish the company were informative and efficient, providing us with all the information we required before the trip and jacob communicated with us daily to ensure he tailored the trip to suit our fitness levels and wishes. For example we were pushed a bit further on the first and second days to allow for more time on the 3rd day in preparation for the last day. There is no getting away from the fact that this means the first and particularly the second day are very tough but overall we thought it was a better strategy. Some companies do it differently but AB expeditions will tailor this so you can discuss with them.

You will see from the other reviews of the inca trail about the work of the porters. In some ways seeing this is almost more impressive than machu picchu itself! Their bags weigh about 30kg and they almost run the trail, it's honestly like seeing the Incas at work, these guys are amazing!!!!!!

The food, well that was something else. The amount and diversity of food we were provided with every day was an experience in itself. Almost too much food at times. Charly was our cook and what came out of that tent on a daily basis was epic, this really helps you get through the trail.

On the last day Jacob advised us to get up early to be one of the first through the sungate and if you're competitive like me, it's a real thrill after all the hard work of the previous few days to be one of the first ones through. With it being rainy season we were met at the sungate with thick cloud but our patience paid off and as the clouds lifted the beauty of machu picchu was unveiled. I was quite emotional and this was probably one of the best moments of my life so far....

By the time we got down to machu picchu we were tired but Jacob pushed us for the last hurdle and took us on the longer, higher circuit again this was worth it. Some companies will just take you on the shorter one, but you will probably only have the experience once so worth the extra effort.

The AB team made this experience possible and I would highly recommend them for a tailored and magical experience.. These memories will last us a lifetime.

Wow!!! The trip was everything we hoped for and more! It was magnificent and magical and breath taking all at the same time. We have travelled Peru Amazon, Cusco and Machu Picchu and more but this was definitely one of the highlights. Stunning colours I honestly thought could not be as true as the photos suggested but they were. My 12 year old daughter also was overwhelmed with joy! We booked a private tour and worth every single penny. Whole bus to ourselves and private personal service.

Be prepared for a long very bumpy journey BUT totally worth it when you arrive at Palcoyo. We didn’t mind at all as this is part of the experience travelling to a very rural mountainous area. Because of the wise very early 3am pick up (we were a bit apprehensive at first about this early time) but it meant we slept in bus (pillows and blankets provided) fabulous touch! and ended up being the only ones there - our very own special time before the throngs arrived.

Ricardo and our diver David were wonderful. Ricardo is a totally great guy and shared so much information and was so friendly and went above and beyond to ensure we were very happy and safe at all times. This is so important when travelling with children. Ricardo made sure we took thing slowly due to the altitude and we started by performing a prayer and placed some rocks at start as part of a tradition. Lovely experience. He made this whole experience one of the absolute highlights of our entire trip. He was truly outstanding! 👏🏽🙏. Thank you Ricardo.

There are locals there to sell a few of their wares, drinks and snacks and in traditional dress to take photos for a very small fee. Please take photos with them and buy some things it’s only pennies to us but means so much to them. There was not so many and they were not overwhelming.

Our driver David was excellent having to negotiate some tricky road block situations and having to reverse uphill to allow another vehicle through on a tight mountain road (unbelievable how he managed this) but he did with confidence and ease and we felt very safe indeed.

Lunch at the community house was a lovely treat on way back and broke up the return journey. We saw hundreds of alpacas on the mountain side and up close the views the whole way were spectacular.

The food by Mario at the community was outstanding. A feast to delight everyone. Every single part of the meal was absolutely delicioso! 😊👏🏽

Thank you also to Elsa who responded to all of my emails very quickly and answered all my questions beforehand, this is very important when you are booking as it can be a little nerve-wracking, booking with a company you don’t know. So thank you Elsa.

It was lovely to meet her in person at the briefing session the evening before and Abel gave an excellent briefing.

In summary the trip was absolutely outstanding. Very well organised and it was breath taking we are so happy with our experience. Please do not hesitate to book with AB Expeditions. They are so professional and having met a number of the AB team now, are wonderful people who really care about making spectacular memories for us.

We booked the 4 day Inca Trail Trip, Rainbow Mountain Day Trip, and Sacred Valley Day trip with AB Expeditions for our family of 6! Each of the tours was amazing, especially the Inca Trail trip with Alex as the guide and Charlie as the chef. AB has great prices and they go above and beyond in terms of taking care of their customers. They were quick to communicate when we were planning our trip and helped with suggesting places to stay. Once we got there they picked us up from the airport and made sure we were all settled in. Abel and Elsa, the owners, are such nice people, I really cannot thank them enough for our terrific experience. Also, unlike many of the other touring companies, they are a small locally owned business. Abel was once a porter before eventually starting the company and so he understands the whole process and pays the porters double their normal salary. He and Elsa will take care of you the entire time you are entire Cusco! Must book with them!

AB Expeditions is an exceptional guiding service and I would highly recommend them for anyone considering a trip to Peru. We hired them for the Sacred Valley tour and the 4-day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu Hike. Both experiences were incredible.

There are a lot of logistics that go into a 4-day Inca Trail trip and AB proved to be more than capable of handling them. They were careful to explain the process and communicate the details. During the trip itself, our guide was extremely knowledgeable and they were very accommodating throughout. The food was delicious (thanks Charlie!)

Overall AB, is great guide service that goes the extra mile to ensure you have a great trip!

After speaking with several tour operators and comparing the offerings we decided to go with AB Expeditions to visit Palcoyo rainbow mountains and we are *so* glad we did.
From the get go Andres was very helpful in answering questions and sharing more information about the tour. The private tour was just what we were looking for, moderately priced, and easy to coordinate and read about on their website.
For the tour itself Joaquin and David were our guide and driver. The Palcoyo rainbow mountains are beautiful, and the route still so under-traveled that it felt very personal to experience. Joaquin helped guide us to the look outs, shared helpful info about the region, and was ready to help with group photos. We know we take a long time photographing the site and he never once rushed us, encouraging us to take our time and make sure we took enough breaks on the walk to catch our breath.
David was a stellar driver. ~4hrs drive from Cusco in both directions! With an early pick up, they recommend napping on the way in and we totally took advantage during the smooth sailing for the first few hours outside the mountain area.
All in all a beautiful & well guided tour. Thank you AB.

We booked the classic 4D/3N Inca trail with AB Expeditions. We had booked a group tour, expecting a small group of 6-8 people but found out the night before that it was just going to be the two of us. At first we were quite disappointed because we liked the idea of a group, lifting each other’s spirits and meeting new people. However actually being just us and Aiben, our fantastic guide, meant that we ended up having a private tour and a personal experience. Aiben was a great guide with extensive knowledge of the Inca sites that we visited and the history of the Incas especially. We could tell that he was really passionate about his job. He was also very funny and friendly. I, especially, was apprehensive about the trek and found it difficult at moments but Aiben did not make me feel rushed or slow. The porters were like supermen, reaching the rest stops hours before us while carrying all of our clothing and equipment on their backs. We liked that AB expeditions provided the porters with good equipment like clothing, good shoes and backpacks. We noticed that other companies did not do the same! The food was also good, with the chef catering to our vegetarian diet. Altogether we had a really great experience with AB expeditions and would recommend them to anyone thinking of doing the Inca trail.

I took the Cusco City tour and the 2 day, 1 night Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu with AB Expeditions and had an absolutely wonderful experience on both trips.

The pre-trip communication was excellent and I always had answers to questions in less than 24 hour during the time before I arrived in Cusco.

The guides were absolutely outstanding, very fluent in English, super accommodating, and very eager to make sure that you are having a great time. Accomodations in Aguas Calientes before Machu Picchu were lovely. I was so impressed with the level of knowledge of the guides. Whether it was an archeological site, a beautiful flower I wanted to know about, the local culture, how to navigate the city...they always knew the answers.

I also have to compliment the drivers. I have done several activities around Cusco and the roads both in the city and in the Sacred Valley are pretty chaotic and very different from the US. Our drivers with AB were very skillful and also careful, and I never felt afraid even on winding, narrow, mountain roads .

Last thing I want to mention is Abel, the owner. He really cares about providing a top notch experience and absolutely delivers on that.

I have never had a better experience with a tour company and highly recommend booking with AB for any activity in the Cusco area!
