Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a cool covered market! So many vendors under one roof. Vegetables and fruits of so many varieties from the Andes to the Amazon! Beautiful flowers to buy in bulk or arrangements. Plenty of fresh fruit juice stalls, fish, meat, dry foods, medicinal herbs and cooking herbs. Must visit! Just a few minutes walk from Plaza de Armas.

The BEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL market I visited during my time in South America! We visited this gem every single day we were in Arequipa; sometimes multiple times a day! We had a freshly blended fruit juice every morning - get the "surtido" (mix) for 3 Soles AND you get a refill. Then we had a heaping plate of amazing food for lunch (8 Soles) and tried all the Arequipa specialties: Rocotto Relleno con Pastel de Papas and Ceviche Mixto especially!
Fresh fruit, bread, cheese and desserts are also available; we even got our travel knife sharpened! You can get EVERYTHING at the Market and you will absolutely love just walking around!

This has to be one of the best organized markets that we have been to. The market had aisles set up well with very large overhead signs designating the different sections which made it very easy to find what we were looking for. Several stalls with an abundance of potato varieties and I found the best lechon that I have ever eaten at one of the stalls.

I found it a bit boring since the market didn't have a lot of product varieties compared to the San Pedro Mercado in Cuzco. So if you don't have so much time, skip it.

I love markets because you get to really experience the local culture and Arequipa’s was very interesting. There is food to take home and cook, stalls selling local food and an entire aisle of women making custom fresh fruit smoothies. Also some souvenirs, a floral area upstairs and a Christmas market. I had a great chicken sandwich for 3.50 sols. Check it out for sure.

Wonderful market with an huge array of colors, smells, products and handicrafts. A must see market to buy fresh and exotics fruits and very well-priced Peruvian handicrafts, where you can easily negotiate a price. It opens quite early in the morning 6 a.m. It is a photographer's dream, but don't flash the camera or phone more than it is necessary. Even though it is relatively safe, our taxi driver advised us to be careful, particularly of strangers bumping into you. If you are interested in handicrafts, this is the place to buy some. The cheapest prices in Arequipa. Also, there is an area to buy traditional handmade hats which are of excellent quality. The best time to visit this market is during the morning or early afternoon.

Markets are always a special place to go. Here you find almost anything and everything. Go upstairs to the food stalls and treat yourself to some local food. Explore the side streets around the market to see all kinds of stores, colors, vistas and smells

Massive market filled with everything under the sun. There is also a corner which sells traditional medicines and witch market stuff like llama fetuses. A good place to eat some street food or natural juices.

It is clear this market represents a central economic heart historic Arequipa. A little of everything is bought and sold here in this multi floor facility. On my visit, I picked up some mint, and witnessed all the festive sales for New Year's Attire, in yellow for luck and happiness.
