On a beautiful sunny warm day we embarked on a visit to some of this UNESCO World Heritage city of Arequipa sights. Called the “White City” – and the second largest populated (1.6m) city in Peru, Arequipa has 25 districts with 25 mayors! There is no subway here, taxis are very cheap – you agree on price before getting in. From the Lookout one can see the three volcanoes, Misti Volcano (5825 ft above sea level and located 20 km from the city), Chacani and Pichu Pichu. There has been no eruption in 200 years but the city is earthquake prone, the last fairly recent (2001) – the signs still visible on same buildings. Views amazing, so many alfalfa fields which is used as food for cattle. It's possible to bungey jump from this lookout; there are toilets and souvenir shop.…

We stop here on a city bus tour and found that the entrance was an extra fee, we weren't informed of prior to arriving there. I'd wouldn't have been as big of a deal if we were able to stay on the bus, or they gave us a good place to wait. Those who didn't enter were forced to wait in the entrance with very little shade and a few benches. Everyone was fight of the mosquitos and trying to find any sliver of shade while waiting. …

This often seems to be the first stop on many city tours of Arequipa. There is a great view of the glacial valley running down into the town, demonstrating the fecundity of the area. A good view point to gain your beatings of this sprawling city.
