History, culture and nice architecture --all in one stop
Apr. 2020
We had no idea as to what to expect on this stop, but we are glad we did. There is a lot to see, learn and enjoy on this museum stop. The structure is really a good one that is well maintained. The interiors are interesting and the history is intriguing. The furnishings are attractive and the layout of the structure unique.

The location is very close to the main square. It is easy to find. There is an "artist and craft show" on the street below. It is worth a quick look if it is in place.

Great representation of the times.

We spent about an hour here walking around and seeing the various rooms in the old house. Beautiful and well cared for.

The presentations were well done and interesting to see how people lived in the early 1800's. Many interesting paintings and rooms representing how General Sucre may have lived.

Well worth the stop!

Lovely colonial building

This is a colonial-era home that Sucre apparently owned for a bit. Has some exhibits about that but mainly shows how the upper class lived. I enjoyed this, mostly for the architecture.

Interesting if you're a money person?

It was cool to learn about the history of Ecuador's currency, but the museum was meager in scale and didn't offer much information about the switch to the USD as the official currency. It would be lovely as a free museum, but if I'm not mistaken, there is still a charge.

Close to the Palacio Presidencial, this beautiful colonial house, that was owned by Venezuelan Mariscal Sucre and his Ecuadorian wife, its a lovely jewel full of history.

Love this little museum....
May 2019 • Friends
This museum is just off the Plaza Grande and is considered a military museum where Sucre's life is shown both in family life and in the military. The location is his home where you can see how the family lived. I particularly love the architecture of the home.

I went to this museum in December as well when the had a photographic exhibit of women involved in social justice. Sadly, this exhibit is no longer there.

Worth a visit.

Interesting family house...

...but if you are pushed for time I would recommend the Casa Museo Maria Augusta Urrutia for a more interesting collection (and a free English guide).

I Enjoyed It

A blast from the past. A small museum that depicts the life style of a person from the late 1800's-early 1900's. If you want to see how people of wealth lived don't miss this one.

Home to a leader of independence
Jan. 2019 • Solo
Sucre helped Ecuador gain independence.
His home and museum is a short 2 minute walk from the grand plaza...but you stop into several churches on the way.
Terrific home with original furniture and paintings.
