Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice interior of blue columns and ceiling with a pattern of embroidery in red. A bit different from the standard uber-gilded churches such as Jesuit, San Fransisco, or La Merced. Though it has an intricate altar, it is comparatively subdued in grandeur next to the others. Pictures allowed and free admission.

Such a unique and cool design. The large brown door, with the white background, really makes the entrance more grandiose!

Though the portico and bell tower show resemblance to other churches in Quito built in the same period around 1600, the interior of Saint Augustine looks rather different. Many of the arches are not pointed, but round almost Romanesque style. Moreover the decoration is often painted and rather colorful, though the colors have become a bit faint. The church was completed in 1617. The adjacent monastery is a bit older.
Saint Augustine is the patron saint of (among others) soldiers, which may explain the lesser display of artistic craftsmanship and splendor.

This is one of my favorite churches in Quito, it has so much history and probably the best paintings from the colonial era. they are still restoring some work but its magestic construction is very impressive

Convento San Agustin – another beautiful convent and this one has such cool wooden doors attached to it. This place again was not listed in the tourist book but it was well worth a look-see!!! Just beautiful and with such history!!!

Simply a beautiful church. There were an abundance of wonderful wood carvings on the inside. Great spot for some pictures and to sit down and take a minute.

We’ve seen a lot of churches on our trip but this is very memorable for the amazing gold decoration and detail. You would never be bored going to mass here. It’s a good size and a pleasure to visit.

This church was on my list of things I missed my first day in Quito but to hit when I got back from the Galapagos. Unfortunately we returned during carnivale and it was closed. No sign stating they were closed and when/if they would open. I went back multiple times in the morning and afternoon for my two last days in Quito and it wasn't open.

Beautiful wood carved altars with gold leaf on front and sides. Statuary, paintings not to miss. Very spiritual place too. Gorgeous ceiling. This is my favorite. Nice place to pray and doesn't get the huge crowd that the Cathedral gets. Don't forget to look at the details of each of the side altars. St. Nicolas especially

there are many churches in Quito and each have their own attractions, but St. Agustin Church (Iglesia de San Agustin) has a special atmosphere which we did not experience elsewhere.
