- Zoe P6 contributionsGreat for a solo or family tour!Stunning artwork and a very cool house museum. You enter through the gate where you pay, and they ask whether you want a tour in English or Spanish. The English-speaking guide at the house museum was phenomenal. It's a really interesting museum with hundreds of artifacts and pieces of artwork, plus you can see his studio with working artists. Then there's a separate art museum featuring Guayasamin's work -- also with English or Spanish guides. After the tour you can wander the museum. Great gift shop as well where you can purchase prints, clothing, jewelry, and other souvenirs.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 26 October 2023
- 2TropicsTravelersOrlando, Florida61 contributionsTruly unique and amazingThe ability to be so close, inside the life of a world renowned artist is very unusual and wonderful. You feel like you knew him personally, and his desire to share his art collection in such a personal way is inspirational and appreciated. The architecture of his house is spectacular and the explanation of his art collection, as well as his artwork, was completely fascinating. We also had a chocolate tasting during our visit which was very interesting and delicious.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 November 2023
- lindaOban, United Kingdom17 contributionsAn amazing experienceWe were recommended to visit this museum, and what a wonderful experience it was. The chapel of man was simply amazing. Stunning paintings and artwork displayed in such a beautiful setting. We were fortunate to have an English speaking guide take us around the gallery. Highly recommend a visit here. The house which is included in the tour is definitely worth visiting. We had a wonderful guide who was so knowledgable about the artist and his life, well worth a visit.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 February 2024
- Trev MBelton, Texas112 contributionsLearn about the artist and his workTwo museums in one. Visit the house the artist lived in for the last 20 years of his life and then another building housing many of his paintings. Well put together and easily enjoyed even by art neophytes. Guayasamin was a socialist who lived during the Cold War and met some major world figures (Mao & Castro) and had three major phases of his career. Learning about his house and life from the docent helped put him in context and show his growth throughout his career. Worth an hour or two.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 April 2024
- mariellette202247 contributionsNot to be missed especially if you like artA bit far out but excellent collection and i loge the painter’s style, I loved the explanations and the thoughts behind the works. Both tours were in English and were good but I felt rushed during the tour in the house. I would have needed more time to admire each room, the design of the house and the tons of pieces the artist collected. The guides are well informed and knowledgeable and therefore able to answer all the questions, especially the guide in the chapel.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 September 2024

Good visit if you like the artist but if you don't, you're in for a shocker. The guide that showed a group of us around was useless with the most basic of descriptions! I eventually had to leave the guided group and wondered off myself. For $8/person (not including the taxi to get there and back), I did leave here feeling none the wiser about what I saw and felt very much out of pocket.

We had never heard of this artist - but were fascinated to learn of his story and his artwork and the role he played in influencing Quito/Ecuador society (he was an ardent supporter of Castro in Cuba). We had the guided tour which was wonderful. We were especially fascinated by the Paco De Lucia painting and the story behind it. The paintings are wonderful, the house which is the museum is a museum in and of itself. This was not on top of our list of things to do in Quito - and should have been; I'm glad we didn't miss this.

Our visit was one of the highlights of our trip to Quito. The works of Guayasamin are evident though out the house and the magnificent studio. His prolific works are displayed both in the home and the adjacent museum. The massive scale and bold use of color is evident his works that do much to reflect the quest for social justice in Ecuador and the continent. Try to schedule a guided tour of both facilities that are available in English as specified times to get a much better understanding of the artists works and life

We had thepleause to visit this museum on our recent trip to Quito. The guide was excellent, her introduction to the artist and his work was well thoughout and beautifully presented. The collection is robust and the development of the artist's work is clear to see. I particularly appriciated the visit to his studio.

What a great place for an afternoons visit. We went with an 9 and 10 year old and it was fascinating! the Huge art pieces had us all engaged. We knew nothing about the artists before our visit and learnt so much whilst we were there.
The museum is filled with huge installations whilst the house contains all his personal pieces and the studio is like he has just popped out for a walk.

I was so happy that the hotel I stayed at had Guayasamin's art on display! I had never heard of this artist and fell in love with his art at first sight.
The hotel referred me to this foundation and my visit here was the highlight of my trip to Quito.
The foundation consists of two buildings: a museum and Guayasamin's house, which is a museum in its own right. It's very well worth a visit even for those who don't love his art. A friend I was with found it rather unsettling but still thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

Beautiful place to visit. The art work is a bit on the depressive side reflecting suffering/sadness. Having been friends with communist/dictators who caused suffering to their people I can’t tell which side of the fence he leaned on. Art was beautiful though.

Hello,
Would you be able to tell me who is available to authenticate a painting I have by Oswaldo Guayasamin? I purchased it at an estate sale and would like to get it authenticated and appraised. I do not speak Spanish. Thanks for any help or direction you may give me.

I am sure at the Museum, the staff could be able to address your questions.

Make sure you get the hotel to order the taxi as the unregistered ones are unreliable and twice we were dropped off miles away from our destination and had to hail down another taxi which isn’t always easy
