Very Interesting Art Display

Although we found it difficult to determine which murals were the "official" murals and which were the amateur murals, we enjoyed walking through the museo a cielo abierto. The artwork is fascinating and has encouraged others to beautify the walls of the city.

Outdated attraction - much better street art elsewhere in Valparaíso
Dec. 2018 • Couples
To be honest, all of Valparaíso is an open air museum! Unless you are going to Pablo Neruda’s house which is in this area, it is not worth your while going out of your way to visit this attraction. The street art in this “museum” is from the early 90s and most of the murals are not very well maintained. There are much more spectacular murals in more accessible areas of Valparaíso.

You need to up and down lots of stairways to see differents and beautiful graffitis! It's important to bring water and a map... I went there alone and it was safe. I walked quietly through the alleyways. Really recommended place!

After going upstairs and downstairs and upstairs again. And up and down the hill! I made it to Museo a Cielo Abierto. Boy was I thristy!! Once calm, I started to see and appreciate where have I've come. There was art all over the walls, there is a lovely church in a very clean and crisp plaza. Picture opportunities abound. Everywhere you look there is a perfect picture moment. I decided to give it a rest, and let the place show me where to go. I found myself at the Casa de Cartografía! the view was beautifull, the place full of art, I met great people and had some laughs, some how this place is very peacefull and out of the city. The views are amazing, and the coffee is great!!

Very disappointing
Nov. 2017 • Couples
There is a lot of beautiful & thought-provoking street art in Valparaiso - go on one of the Free Tours (from Plaza Anibal Pinto or Plaza Sotomayer - 10am & 3pm daily) and you will see, and have explained, lots of great paintings and examples from key artists.
The Museo a Cielo Abierto, while an interesting concept with historical roots, and originally organised with the best of intentions, is not the best representation of what is now on offer. In addition there is a a lot of coarse graffiti now spoiling the art, so it just presents a depressing side of Valpo

Waste of time...I am serious, it's a waste.

This place is mentioned as a must see in Valparaíso on so many webpages and also in our guide book. I simply don't understand why.

We have walked for endless hours in the streets of Valparaíso and enjoyed it very much to look at streetart etc. But I would say that the Museo a Cielo is the least impressive we have seen.
The walk up the hill is quite strenuous and quite dull. When getting to the top there are several pieces of art that are nice and very enjoyable, the thing is just that it is LESS enjoyable than most other part of Valparaíso. So, when in Valparaíso don't settle for OK at Museo a Cielo, go to the other part of town and see GREAT art.

Museum without a roof
Jan. 2017 • Couples
Sometimes public art is dubbed a museum without walls. In this case the art is painted on the walls...murals, dozens of then. Many of this eclectic mix of styles and subjects, are beautiful or incredibly detailed or both.

Disappointing

I am a street art aficionado. And from what I had read about the Museo a Cielo Abierto, i expected much more.Actually, Valparaiso itself deserves this name, not this area in particuilar. And so it's a waste of time.
Go to Cerro Polanco instead, ( supposedly a potentially risky area because of poverty and drug problems );We spent two wonderful hours in the early afternoon admiring all the painted walls and loved the cerro;

We went in april to Valparaiso and we walked as much as we could. We found this museum, which I found very interesting and enjoyable. It matches perfectly with the entire bohemian atmosphere of this city. Not to be missed!

Not maintained, art worse than the rest of the city
Jun. 2016 • Friends
Not worth it. The "professional" murals are not as good as many other amateur ones in the city, and there is graffiti all over it (like actual graffiti/rude words/tagging, etc). The only thing that makes it a museum are the tags with the artists name on them.
