Pablo Neruda was this area's most famous writer and this was the house he chose for his home. Now a museum and a Natural Historic Monument, it showcases items from his travels. On a high point in Valparaiso, we arrived by auto. One can walk up but it certainly looks challenging to me. If one is not interested in Neruda, I would still recommend it for gorgeous sweeping views over Valparaiso. One can wander and enjoy the grounds and view without a fee.

A must when visiting Valparaiso. Entering the property one is welcomed by a great view of the city but as you go up the floors of the house the view gets more spectacular. Great introduction to Pablo Neruda, his life and legacy. The rooms are small so I imagine it can get crowded. The audio guide was easy to use.

Thoroughly enjoyable visit to the home - that has been turned into a museum - of Chilé's famous poet Pablo Neruda. It was well organized and didn't take more than an hour start to finish. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Valparaiso.

Cool place that serves as a tribute of sorts to Pablo Neruda. Shows a more intimate personal side of him compared to La Cascona, the other Neruda home/museum in Santiago which is more about his broader accomplishments especially as a poet. Lots of personal artifacts made more interesting by the fact that he was a prolific collector of articles, furnishings, art, souvenirs, etc. from his extensive travels and relationships. It's quite a hike up to La Sebastiana if you're walking though overall it's worth the experience.

Really boring place with 11 audio stops with the accompanying audio guide . Was really bored after the 3 stop as it is superfluous and very boring . Felt I wanted to get out of the house as really, it is just a well furnished house.

Only go if you like this guy .

Pablo Neruda House La Sebastiana is situated on a steep hill overlooking the city and harbour. It has many levels and one can walk around the gardens and the interior without a tour guide. It is well worth your time to explore this house as it holds interesting information about Neruda. (Famous poet). There is a café and souvenir shop on the property so you can buy books which may be of interest. Most of the rooms have stunning views and are sweetly decorated in a nautical theme. A excellent spot for taking photos of Valparaiso.

Only awe can feel when you visit the house of such a personality.
Neruda called it La Sebastiana in honor to
its builder, Sebastián Collado, a Spaniard who, after searching for a place from where he could have an entire view of Valparaíso, began to build this house with the purpose of living there when his children got married. Sebastián passed away. Fate and the search made by Sara Vial – a poet and a friend of Neruda's – plotted for its next owner to be the Chilean poet, who resolved to give it such a name claiming that “even if don Sebastián did not write verse, he was a poet of construction”.
Once in Valpo, take a cab or collectivo up through the hills toward Neruda’s house, which is located on Cerro Bellavista. If you want to get some exercise, you can walk to his house, but it is advisable to take an ascensor (elevator) part of the way upward. Cerro Bellavista is best reached by Ascensor Espíritu Santo.
Unfortunately photos are prohibited inside the house.
Good advise, know your taxi driver’s phone number.
No taxi in the area only collective.

Now a museum, the home is preserved as Neruda lived in it. His treasures and quirks of imagination are displayed well and explained through audio guides. I would have loved to have been in his circle of friends as Neruda is revealed to be culturally curious and possessing a sense of humor.

We came not knowing quite what to expect and enjoyed walking through his Valparaiso home with the audio guide. The house itself is fabulous situated on top of the hill overlooking the harbour, and the guide talks you through Neruda’s personal contributions to its building, evolution and the way he enjoyed it within his lifestyle. We were surprised how much we took away from this venture.
