A Cornucopia of Natures Goodness in a Kaleidoscope of Colours!
Jun. 2019
……………….Its never a dull moment when you take time out to pay a visit to the fresh produce market in any part of the world whether to buy or just to observe and where you are met by a cornucopia of life's foods displayed in a kaleidoscope of different colours. Here is the place where people don’t come in their Sunday best but just in ordinary day to day cloths to serve the nation. Most of the time at these places you will by no means not discover a new type of fruit or vegetable that you have not ever seen in your own market in your home country. And your lungs are exposed to a new fragrance of all the fresh produce chucked together in one massive warehouse so the smell is not stale but fresh and new as every day new fruit and veg are brought here. Still there is a new smell to be experienced when you leave the stalls area on your way out where you encounter all the Skips filled with the fermented rotting wasted and withered garbage that is foul-smelling yet another kind of experience that is a must to do when visiting the market places of the world. One other reason for our visit here was that we were told by our daughter-in-law that the best and genuine Venezuelan empanadas were to be had here from VENEZOLANOS Gourmet en la Vega so we just had to come around and try them, They are made fresh-lii while you wait. The flavours of the fillings on offer were among other Queso(cheese), Pabellon, Operado, Mechada, Domino, chicken(pollo), dogfish(cazon) The dogfish we just had to savour and it was good even the meat-ii ones were very good, we also had the Tequeno de queso (cheese croquettes) enhanced with a coriander dip. There is a whole row of different food stalls here to choose from. We enjoyed our visit here………………..

Mostly a Fresh Local Market
Mar. 2017 • Friends
I still rate this market highly as an important fresh food market for local people, even though i was looking for a dining experience on the day i visited. The meats, fruit and veg looked to be of excellent quality, as I've come to expect in Chile. Viva!

Delicious

Great market near de Mercado Central. All kinds of fruit and vegetables. Most of them from Chile but also a lot of tropical fruits from other countries in South America. Nice to walk around.

The Real Market
Jul. 2016 • Solo
I love this place. It's gritty, it's real, it's huge, for true market lovers, who aren't interested in the pretty and sanitized half hour selfie snapping walk through the Mercado Central, this is just a couple of blocks away and a place you can get lost in for hours, looking at produce, fish, meat, and, virtually anything you can think of. And, good, cheap eats that are far more authentic than the tourist oriented offerings in the Central.

Mercado de Flores was amazing! So vibrant
Apr. 2015 • Solo
Beyond the Mercado Central, be sure to venture over to the flower market. Early in the day is best, but any time is good. The flower market and the fruit market are both well worth a visit.
