This huge neoclassical building once housed Chile's Congress, which now evidently meets in Valparaiso, which is sort of like having the U.S. House of Representatives meet in Miami! It was closed when I passed.

For some strange reason, maps provided by the Touristist Info offices in Santiago list this under "other interesting buildings." What an understatement. It was apparently closed but we went to a back entrance on Morande, were promptly ushered in and soon had our own private tour guide for the building (no fee). I only rated it average because I passed by on the street. The grounds are very beautiful but I was not able to go in since it was Sunday. There are two bells hanging from a frame in near the entrance which were returned to Chile during their bicentennial celebration by Wales. Apparently the bells had been salvaged from a... More
