We stopped to visit La Merced on a Monday morning when most cultural institutions were closed. A mass was underway and the pews were surprisingly (to me) full given the day and time. This is not the Grand Cathedral. It's more of a church for...More

Smell of intense, holy water and gazing upon saints, you know you are in a centuries old church. The inside of the church is awash in pink, warm colors and chandelier lights aglow. The tiles and intricate detailing and devout worshippers gives this church a...More

We found this on a list of "must see" churches in Santiago, and I agree with that assessment. Very beautiful church. We did not have time to see the small museum next door but it looked like it would have been worth a stop as...More

The church dates from the 18th century. It is a Chilean national monument. Be sure to visit the small museum next store. It houses religious artifacts and some pieces from Eater Island. The garden is very tranquil. Check the hours for when the church is...More

This church features some bells which tell you the time, and such characteristic was immortalised in the tango called "Carillón de La Merced", written by the Argentinean Enrique Santos Discepolo.

One of the most beautiful and artistic churches on downtown Santiago which gave the name of the colonial Merced Street is the Basilica de la Merced church. The friars have preserved most of the ancient artistic pieces collected for years to embellish the temple. It...More

We can't pass a church without dropping in and this one is a beautiful one in the middle of the city. The outside has great colours and the inside is very solemn, but gives you wonderful feeling being there.
