The church is in a central lication, a beautiful Catholic Church. THe decorations are mostly in silver because silver was abundant in Chile.

Inglesia de San Francisco Church is adjacent to Hotel Plaza San Francisco. Consecrated in 1622, oldest Church in South America. Although underwhelming from street level, the details and beauty inside are truly amazing.

Worthwhile to see this old church from colonial times, as there are only a few in Santiago. Simple and serene. Unfortunately, the museum was closed when I visited.

Smaller and less elaborate than the cathedral but worth a brief visit. It's right in the center of town.

Second church on Plaza de Armas. Smaller but lovely as well. Weird but interesting contrast with the glass skyscraper next to it. Free entrance.

This original church is small but peaceful and attached to cloisters that are lovely. With luck a peacock will strut his full feathers in the cloister garden. If not just enjoy the peace and serenity of this spot.

Earthquakes have a pesky way of knocking down everything that was built before about 1960 in Chile. Iglesia San Francisco is the exception to the rule. It is almost twice as old as the second oldest building in Santiago. It is a not a grand...More

Recently while on holiday in Chile we visited this church only to be mugged ( scam ) being squirted with a substance and told it was pigeon poo from an old guy. The younger guy ( obviously worked together) then proceeded to try and assist...More
