West Falkland is one of the most remote places in the world and Peter & Shelley were fantastic at showing us the wildlife (penguins, albatrosses, elephant seals, reindeer, dolphins, sea lions and more), the native plants and the varied and dramatic landscape (e.g. Grave Cove and Indian Village). They also introduced us to the challenges of everyday farming life and the self sufficiency required to survive in truly remote settlements (nearest shop almost 2 hours away by unsurfaced road). Many of the things to see are not on any map and required an off-road vehicle. Not only are these not available to hire in West Falkland but you also need years of experience driving off-road to cope too. But however challenging the terrain, we had complete confidence that Peter would get us there, and back! To get the best out of the trip, you need good walking boots and waterproofs. A pair of binoculars is worthwhile and bring your telephoto, although you get so close to many of the birds and animals that even a phone camera does pretty well. If you are lucky you can try your hand at sheep shearing and there is plenty of opportunity to learn the vagaries of Falkland gates. We were fantastically well fed on local meat and home grown veg and fruit and plenty of it: Shelley is used to the appetites of Falkland Islands farmers! We were genuinely welcomed into Shelley and Peter's house in Hill Cove and felt it was a real home from home. We could not recommend a stay with them more highly.

Thank You Nick for your kind review We enjoyed taking you and Ruth around parts of West Falklands, hope you can get back one day to explore more, plus there are many other kinds of gates to try your hand at. All the best Peter & Shelley
