About
The historic Long Bar returns fully restored and continues its proud tradition as the Home of the Singapore Sling. The famous counter shines like new amidst decor that marries architecture and contemporary plantation-inspired motifs. Long Bar was located at Cad’s Alley in the early 1900s. At a time when improved rail and road systems brought rubber and palm oil plantation owners over to Singapore from Malaya every weekend, it was known as the ‘Rendezvous of Planters’. The earthy decor of the two-storey Long Bar is inspired by Malayan life in the 1920s. The deep, rich colours and lush greenery transport patrons to the edge of a tropical plantation. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere, guests are invited to brush peanut shells off the table and bar counter to the floor. This is quite possibly the only place in Singapore where littering is encouraged.

    Raffles Long bar.
Fulfilled a life time ambition. Had to wait approx five minutes to get in,but once inside, it lived up to its billing. Very very expensive but worth it for a lifetime experience. All the staff were obliging and knowledgeable. If I was in Singapore again,I will go again.

    When in Rome…(?)
Well you have to visit the Long Bar when in Singapore… not our first visit but you have to return …although we can’t see any difference since the refurb (of the hotel), and the price of a Singapore Sling is a bit eye watering. May be it should be renamed The Watering Hole;-) Expect to queue, but it moves quite quickly. And the nuts are tiny. $$$

    A must when in town
We heard about Raffles and the long bar prior. We hit the opening and enjoyed a couple of slings, of course. It's a great history and a good place to cool down after wandering around the Fort area.

    Must visit for cocktails lovers
The iconic place where Singapore sling cocktail was invented. Now it costs S$38, other cocktails are cheaper (S$20-30), these prices are without tax and service (extra 17%). There is a bar with colonial historical atmosphere, where old traditions as peanuts shells on the floor are still alive. There is (I think always) a queue, but it goes fast: we spend there 10 minutes.

A nice atmosphere spoiled by snubbing local arrack
Very cool atmosphere was spoiled by two things: 1. A supposed "foreign concept" which meant they did not serve arrack (available at other restaurants of the hotel, and weirdly they did serve local beer) and 2. A silly "no shorts" requirement for gentlemen (even in leather shoes, and even at an outdoor table). As I mentioned it was really nice, with excellent local bite preparations, and especially because the band played local music as well as English music. But we will not be going back, because when in Sri Lanka, we want to buy local, including the delicious arrack. If it is about pricing, I would pay more to have the alcohol I enjoy.

    Raffles, history and Singapore Slings
I was staying in the hotel across the road and have always wanted to go in to the breathtaking Raffles hotel. As it’s home to the famous Singapore Sling I went to the Long Bar to try one in its natural habitat. It wasn’t very busy thankfully and I got a bar seat straight away. The room is just beautiful with dark wood and a real colonial at feel to it. It was a great experience sitting drinking my eye watering my expensive Sling thinking about the history of the hotel and watching everyone soak up the ambience of this beautiful structure. Worth every cent though I’d have had to take a second mortgage out if I’d wanted another one!

    A rip off
We had not been to the Raffles Long Bar for a few years and were keen to revisit. It hadn't changed much, and as usual they don't miss when it comes to charging a ridiculous amount for a pre-mixed Singapore Sling. $38 SGD, plus taxes/service fees, makes it an expensive exercise. No wonder everyone stays for just one drink! Will be our last trip to Raffles.

    Singapore sling
We came here for 12 noon opening time. There was a bit of a queue, but we managed to get seated at the bar. It is a beautiful bar with lots of history. We both ordered the famous Singapore sling and I must say it was delicious. They also give you a small sack of nuts to nibble on. Probably the most expensive cocktail I’ve had , especially when the service charge and tax is added. I probably wouldn’t rush back, but we felt we wanted to experience this must do on our first visit to Singapore.

    Old world charm.
We all know it's going to be expensive, and you can go over the road to chijmes and get a Singapore sling for $16. But that wouldn't have you sitting in the long bar. And how would you tell your friends you paid way to much for a drink. You are paying for an experience. A expensive one, but your not getting hammered in this bar. Do it once to tick of the list.

    Where Else Should One Partake?
We've been to Raffles a few times, but for some reason we've always drunk in the Writers Bar, so today we finally sat at the Long Bar. It's a legendry spot and what we didn't realise was you could access it directly from the street. We'd arrived at the hotel entrance and managed to walk into the lobby then walk out again along the various courtyards until we found it. Being a popular thing to do, there was a small queue waiting for free tables and it's literally first come first served. It turned out to be no more than 20 minutes though we did notice it grew much longer once inside. The Singapore Sling is the drink to choose, though we've had them in Raffles before yet my wife thought it was better for some reason. Anyway, after that I tried a half-yard of ale which was quite fun. Prices are a little higher but you're in a world famous bar. We only went in for one drink but got talking to a couple from the UK who lived near us so we ended up spending a few hours in there. It was fun, the bar tenders were happy to chat and told us about the traditions and why we were throwing our monkey nut shells on the floor!

Was here almost 10 years ago and it seems to have changed quite a bit. It is now quite a tourist trap - now no food is served and the price of the drinks, especially the traditional Singapore Sling, is extortionate. However, it remains a must-do if visiting Singapore.

You can’t come to Singapore and not visit Raffles.
We went to the Long Bar as a walk in.
No queue at 8:30, straight in and sat at the bar with a huge bag of monkey nuts.
Drink prices are a bit OTT but you have to remember what star the hotel is etc…
Expect a cocktail around 28-30 SUSD.
Soak up the speakeasy music and enjoy.

Waited in line for a beer …. Yes just a beer
No walk ins , just wait wait wait
Left when the queue got even longer
Waited 26 years to return for a drink
Won’t bother again

We went to try the sling and the place is quite nice and has good atmosphere. The drink was ok. The thing is that it was very expensive for what it was. Would not go again.

We visited Raffles while in Singapore for:
1. Singapore Sling in the Long Bar: circa £27 each. The glass contained a huge chunk (slab) of ice and what appeared to be a small amount of alcohol. After a couple of slurps on the straw it was gone! Utter and complete rip off. Now off the bucket list and certainly will never be repeated.
2. Afternoon Champagne Tea: on arrival, our table was not available at the booked time. We were asked to wait and there was no where to sit and wait. Eventually, after a 5 minute wait standing up, we were seated in a walkway in the middle of the foyer right by the till with a queue resulting in footfall brushing past our table. We might as well have been eating in an open railway carriage!! After pointing this out we were allocated a new table after another half hour wait.
Service was slow (not enough staff?) and eventually our champagne arrived, followed by beverages and the tea cake tray. The sandwiches were superb, though not enough. Lovely cakes, probably too many sweet items.
We seemed to miss out on the champagne refills which other tables received. The tea was also not re-stocked.

With nothing to drink ie no champagne or tea refills, our scones arrived after another wait.

This was booked as something special and it struggled to be even ordinary. A complete disappointment.

In conclusion, it appears as if Raffles are living off their reputation and do not provide value for money. In fact, far from it. A great shame for such a beautiful location.

Completely overrated and insane cocktail prices (39SGD for a Singapore sling) for what is mostly ice.

The atmosphere is ok but we visited many better bars in SG, on the same night we visited Lavo rooftop bar in Marina Bay Sands and found it vastly better value.

It’s cheaper, better service and being up in the clouds also adds in the cool factor that Raffles does not have.

A trip back in time. One of the only places where you can put rubbish on the floor. The Singapore sling was great and so were the peanuts. We paid around £40 for a alcoholic and non alcoholic drink. I wore shorts and a T-shirt which was fine. Can’t book just turn up.

We had a good 20m wait to get into the long bar. So if you intend of attending, please be advised that you will have to wait a little time. The Singapore Slings were amazing. The 1915 Sling was also great. It had a different taste that was worth while. It was great that you could just clean the table yourself while pushing all the nut cases into the floor.

My first visit here was 20 years ago. The last one, two weeks ago, is going to be just the last one. The point of coming to the Long Bar at the Raffles was always an attempt to sense the past. The hotel seemed to cultivate its heritage.
Today: - a long line of excited people waiting to enter the bar, inside: - windows are closed, tinted glass, no view, no air (except AC), the relaxed feeling is completely gone. We are in a kind of cage with plenty of tables and the crowd of curious guests making the best of the recommended experience. It is simply nothing more than a tourist attraction. Cheap one, despite expensive drinks... Sad...
