The INA marker is located in Esplanade park in downtown. Even though there was some construction going on at the park, there are plenty of signs to help you locate the marker. Not sure what some of the folks here are complaining about. Got to give it to Singapore, the Japanese occupation was a dark period for the majority Chinese,... More

After visiting Changi prison and reading about how the British and Commonwealth troops suffered as POW's under the Japanese, it was hard to visit and understand how the Indian National Army - Indian troops formerly attached to the British army defending Singapore and remain unbiased to the storyof Indian troops, who changed sides and threw their lot in with the... This was a waste of hot, sunny afternoon. The road signs say the memorial is 300 meters away, but nothing there. There is a lot of construction and my worry is that the memorial is hidden within the construction zone. I wished they could tell you where it was. the spot suggested on Google Maps also turned out nothing -... More

INA memorial is a must visit for any Indian. It honors the Indian National Army who fought for the independence of the country against the British. Its not easy to find this small memorial. Its located inside a garden near Esplanade. There is a signboard but still we could locate this place with great difficulty. Hope after the visit of... More

The Indian National Army (INA) was created by Indian leader, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, to overthrow the British rulers of India and for this purpose, he allied with the Japanese during the second World War. However, in spite of some early victories, they were eventually forced to retreat and surrender as the Allies won the War. This plaque commemorates the... More

This honours the controversial army raised by Bose from captured Indian soldiers to fight largely unsuccessfully against the British. Rare monument I would think.

You certainly wouldn't expect to find anything like this in China or South Korea, so it is perhaps an indication of the level of tolerance that Singapore has to past atrocities. The history of the INA is well worth reading about, and its links with British colonialism and the quest for Indian independence. This monument is definitely worth a stop,... More

Read in history books how Netaji Subash Chandra Bose from Bengal, India, travelled all the way to Singapore to form the Indian National Army in a bid to free India from the British Colonial Rule. Unfortunately, he sided the Japanese army, thus, when they fell, the Indian National Army was disbanded. The original monument was demolished and in its place... More

The Indian National Army supported Japanese war efforts during WW2, and declared war on Britain and US during the Japanese occupation years. When the British retook Singapore in 1945, they demolished the monument, dedicated to a war hero of the Indian National Army.

This is a small odd monument which is Historically important. It bears witness to the Indian National Army - Indian Troops who changed sides and threw their lot in with the Japanese following their capture (Mainly but not exclusively at Singapore). There is some controversy ref their commemoration due to alleged complicity with the Imperial Japanese Forces War Crimes and... More

Staying in Marina Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Marina Bay
More of a mini city than a neighbourhood in the traditional sense, the iconic Marina Bay aims to dazzle and entertain visitors of all kinds. This is the Singapore found in glossy brochures, featuring a world-class hotel, casino, shops, restaurants, bars, and other attractions all geared towards pure entertainment. The SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands provides a stunning view of the city, a must-see photo opportunity for visitors and locals alike. The ArtScience Museum always has a top-quality exhibition, and Gardens by the Bay is a fascinating manifestation of the government’s vision of Singapore as a “city in a garden”. Enticing Marina Bay is well worth a visit.
