I'm not a big consumer, so speaking from a sight seer, visit Orchard Road it's defiantly one of a kind, you may find it difficult to get from one side of the road to the other though.

Orchard Road
Shopping is a national pastime for Singaporeans, and
after a visit to Orchard Road it’s easy to see why.
This seemingly endless boulevard boasts a dizzying
selection of shopping centres. From bargain basement
foragers to designer label big-spenders, there is
something for everyone. For those just browsing, there
are countless restaurants, food courts, and cinemas,
as well as the odd street entertainer to keep you

Better to carry SGD. Moneyvchangers are no problem, one can use International cards, widely accepted... Though I didn't use USD but shouldn't be a problem in big stores, yes you pay a price for that.

The night markets are not in Orchard Rd, they are in chinatown and are open early to late. Its about a $5 cab ride from the hotel.
