In the Prambanan historical area everybody goes to and raves about the Prambanan Temples. They deserve it: I love them. However, less than a km away is a place that the tourist hordes ignore. It is the 2nd largest Buddhist temple complex in Indonesia (behind Borobudur). It is impressive and symmetrical and deserves more time and kudos. Like Prambanan, not... More

After visiting the larger temple at this complex we walked up to Sewu despite the heat. We were unable to gain entrance as the gates were locked. Some of the temples still looked unstable so maybe there was a reason. I am not sure as others have visited and were in the complex. Would have been great to gain entrance,... More

its location is hidden by the sheer beauty of Prambanan temple. It is a pity to miss this beautiful complex. Put this in your itinerary as part of visit to Prambanan Temple. To get here, you need to walk quite a distance (600-800 m ?) from Prambanan temple, but you can also have the alternative of using a Buggy car... More

Just walking distance from the main Prembanan temple away we found this great place for exploration and reflection. We have been alone here for 30 min and could explore every corner on our own. Embedded in a nice park a must see in Yogya.

Its a wonderful temple. Even though it was a hot sunny day, it was so cool inside the temples. The place clean and very interesting.

Being at the back of the park there less people here, but it was beautiful and offered great photo opportunities. Fantastic example of Buddhist temple.

Once you leave Prembanan temple itself behind you, it's only a 10 minute walk to this beauty. But somehow, most visitors are not interested. This is odd, since the place has a very mystical atmosphere.

Definitely make the effort to visit this temple when you're in prambanan. It's majestic, and best of all- empty. When we were there prambanan was overrun with tourists, mostly Indonesian groups and we kept on being asked to be in their photos. That does get annoying after the 10th time. But none of the Indonesians go to the other temples.... More

If you go to Prabanam then it will be easy to go to Sewu, as it is in the same compound. Take the suttle that leaves from Prabanam from time to time, and Sewu will be in the last stop. It is a Buddhist temple and really worthy the visit.
