I recommend everybody to visit this place. Especially with a free tour by the Indonesian Heritage Society. It was very interesting, you see extraordinary ancient things from Bali, Yogyakarta, etc. But be careful, this place closes at 16.00 - 17.00.

Extremely interesting artefacts of ancient civilization and our ancestors. The homes, tools, weapons, jewellry, boats and tricycles are just extraordinary and makes one realise how man has developed!?!? Worth visiting.

Yes the museum is kids friendly in terms of free spaces but if you mean "kids friendly" in terms of activity I think not. But the museum is really big and you can enjoy it.
