📍Telaga Waja River Rafting, Bali

My personal BEST ever white water rafting experience was in Telaga Waja.
🛶Picture rafting over cascade after cascade surrounded by the lushest greens, with the incessant roaring of strong waters.
🌊The best part was rafting through a waterfall that appeared in the middle of seemingly nowhere, having a pitstop there, and just immersing ourselves in all of its magic. The experience was ethereal.

A whopping 18km track, this rafting experience at the East side of Bali is a MUST-experience.
Costing roughly 300,000 Rupiah's (Rm 85) per person, this is a well worth investment of the best of memories.

Did the white water rafting today. Great weather which made it more enjoyable. Rafting itself was great except the guide was not very professional. He kept touching me from behind innapropreately. I didnt raise my concern as I was afraid my bf would hit him and ruin the day for those in the raft, clearly this was a stupid mistake and should have said something. Just a warning for those that will do this tour and might come across this guide. I did not get his name or had forgotten. I wish I stood up and had told him but I didnt. So just a warning if u do come across this guide please say something as he shouldnt be getting away with it.

This was a very unique experience as we had never tried this activity before. We both enjoyed the river with many magnificent views of waterfalls, and Bali countryside.
The river is a great challenge for first timers, but overall the experience was good.
However, I truly think that there is not enough control over this stretch of water as may of the rafting companies are located within 1 km of each other, and they all launch at the same time. Therefore there were many occasions when rafts were running over or into each other coming down the river. On one occasion, we were impacted by another raft and they capsized, resulting in all occupants being put in the water and 1 person sustaining minor injuries. This to me was an indication of the lack of expertise of the guides, the number of boats on the water at any one time, and the general lack of coordination for this activity.
I think all the rafting companies are pretty much the same, so I would caution people to have a good time, but make it known that you are concerned about the capabilities of the guide, and their concern for the occupants safety.
Additionally, be advised that when you exit the water, you still have about a 200-250m climb back to the dining area. This can be quite a physical experience depending on your personal fitness.

I did the white water rafting on the Telaga waja river with Alam Adventures after the recomendation of 3 friends and I can highlly recommend them too . They are a very professional outfit with good quality equipment and well trained staff and the meal at the end of the 16 kilometer river raft was a really goof buffet and was one of the better meals that I had while in Bali . The price was good value for money and was negotiated through MBA travel in Legian

Just got back from Bali and first time ever writing such a negative review. We are an active family and do heaps of adventure holidays. The initial trip down the rapids was good fun but there were too many boats. One got stuck between two rocks and others banked up behind it. The current was extremely strong and as our boat reached the jam, it tipped without any warning. We all ended up in the water. I was stuck under the boat and nearly drowned whilst everyone on top panicked and tried to lift the boats up (there were at least 4 boats jammed together so it was hard to find me). Worse though was the fact that my two kids (aged 8 and 9) were sucked under our boat and then under the other boats before ending up racing down the rapids screaming. By the time I got out from the boats they were at least 50 metres away and travelling fast. I raced after them and reached them just in time. We are all good swimmers but holding onto them both in that current with rocks smashing into us was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. A boat caught up and rescued my daughter but I was still travelling extremely fast with my son and we both nearly got sucked under again by another boat trying to help. Eventually we were rescued too and we were ok (aside from the many bruises). But the thing is we could easily have died and this is no exaggeration. The river is too congested to be safe. If this is not addressed, the next accident may be fatal.

I rafted this river with "Bagus Rafting". I don't believe there is much difference between all the different tour groups except for the small things such as what is provided for lunch, the guide, and what they let you do in the raft. All the different tours have their different unload and load points but they are well within 1km of each other and you can see the people getting ready/walking down.

My guide did most of the rafting (turning and steering etc) which took out some of the fun in my opinion as we only paddled about 5-10% of the time. Perhaps other tours let you paddle more? In the end it worked out for me as I was able to take more photos and take in the phenominal scenery. (Your camera will get wet so you need a waterproof one or a dry camera bag). 1 person on our raft had never rafted before in her life so it worked out for her too.

I asked the guide if Ayung or Telaga Waja River was better and he said Ayung was boring and flat lol. Telaga Waja is 1-2 classes higher than Ayung so it makes sense.

The rafting finished with a 4m drop off a man made dam which was fun :D

Tea/coffee was provided upon arrival and a nice hot Balinese lunch + tea/coffee was provided upon finish.

It is situated in a valley so there are a lot of steps to climb down (at the start) and up (at the end). I had climbed Mt Batur earlier that week so the steps weren't really an issue for me.

I paid the equivalent of 30USD ... the tour booth offered me that price for 3 different tour groups with their advertised price in the brochure for about 50-70.

A waterproof bag was used to store small things like phones/sunglasses/money/cameras and if you brought a change of clothes you could leave them in the transport.

I would definitely reccommend rafting if you go to Bali.

Firstly great experience and lots of fun, especially that last drop. Worth the money I spent, however it was about 2 hours from Seminyak. As for the dangerous part, there seemed to be lots of rocks and not enough water. I raft crashed into a rock and capsised, causing us all to get thrown in the water. Again some make take this as a thrill. All in all I think a tour guide / raft "driver" was great with lots of experience. I would recommend! That last fall I thought was a great experience!
I would also like to a representative from here to contact me if possible.

Just came back from Bmw rafting, wanted to check other reviews. I completely agree with familyfuninsun, there were too many boats and the instructors ("captain", as they call themselves) do not really care about safety. Boats are large and they get stuck in the rocks very often; we hit hard few others in front of us and others behind came along: paddles everywhere, boats on top of each other. I ended up in water after a bumpy spot, the boat dragged me for 50ms before I could get back on board. Thanks to a fellow tourist that pulled me in. The CAPTAIN did not move, he only yelled up up up! Other companies on the river were just the same. Balinese people think only about the money, safety and quality are optional. However, the river is good fun and the scenery amazing. Just hold on tight!
