Didn't find this area too interesting. Filled with really touristy shops and snacks
Took the boat ride, really was eager to get off. not much to see.
Found a couple small museum and house type places within the complex. There wre the most interesting thing about the area.

Nothing really stands out here, but it was an enjoyable place to spend two or three hours. There are several attractions close together, all of which are quite good - the Confucius temple, with its exhibits on Confucius' life; the museum about the Imperial Academy, which is fairly large and interesting , despite the lack of non-Chinese signage; the riverside area, with the boats; and the shopping area with traditional architecture.
To some extent it reminded me of the Yu Gardens area in Shanghai, except that this area is smaller but, on the positive side, far less crowded.

Unlike thousands of other temples, this is a good one to see at night as it has lots of lights, dance performances, and a labyrinth of shops with souvenirs all around. Take a lot of pictures. Prepare yourself for crowds inside and outside this temple area. It's very popular!

It has the atmosphere of a typical tourist spot.
But isn't that a good thing?
Relax and enjoy the tourist spot atmosphere.
When traveling by taxi, I was wondering which gate to go to.
I think your trip will go more smoothly if you decide which gate to go to in advance.

It is well preserved. Both portrait and statue of Confucius are nice. Dragons on the roof are well decorated.

The Confucius temple in Nanjing is a place to be visited. This is located in the heart of the city and is a well known tourist destination in Nanjing. The temple is located on the banks of the river ‘Qin Hua’. There is a charge for entering the temple. The current rates are 30 Y for one person. The first hall is a very beautiful place. The figure of Confucius in the centre is reputed to be the largest in China. You will also find 8 marble statues of his disciples. Then there are 38 panels depicting Confucius’s life around the hall. These panels are made with jade, gold, silver and marble. They look very life like.
Then there are various stone tablets of that era. After that you can visit the music room. Various instruments are laid in neat rows. There are plenty of chairs for visitors. Check the show timings. Neatly dressed musicians perform two shows. Interested patrons can pay a specified amount to play music of their choice.
Tourists throng the nearby streets. The area around the temple consists of a several shops, snack bars and cafes. You will also find Jiangnan Examination School from the Ming Dynasty nearby. This was the first school in Nanjing and South East China

The temple seems like an afterthought. The place is surrounded by tacky souvenir stores, cheap clothing chains and fast food joints like McDonalds. It might have been interesting a long time ago but it's now a shrine to consumerism rather than a religion that had influenced the Chinese for centuries. It's really sad but maybe that's what people prefer and that's what they get.

I work in the northeast part of China almost three months a year, but I have only done a few tourist jaunts in the central part of the country. I have to rank Nanjing as the friendliest city I have been to in China. The people are extremely welcoming from the taxi drivers to the many locals that spoke with us and gave us directions. It also is an orderly city, and it is fairly easy to cross the major streets near Fuzi’s temple.
I would go back to Nanjing in a heartbeat, but I would never go near Fuzi’s temple again. The Chinese have amazing tourist infrastructure, but my first reaction when I saw the temple was, “Is this really it?” The site is clearly modern, and it was impossible to discern what is truly historical about the place. My general impression is that the temple slapped together to suck people into a tourist trap nightmare. I have read that this place has great historical significance, but it didn’t give us the sense of awe, which is the normal reaction in China’s great tourist spots. The general lack of English signs also detracted from the experience.
The area surrounding the temple is packed with hundreds of mediocre tourist shops and Chinese brand clothing stores.
Nanjing is a wonderful place to explore, but I wouldn’t come just to see the temple.

Its absolutely brilliant, its a great place to go to get your gifts before you go home, and its full of little jewels, it is true most of the jade is fake, but even in China a real good quality Jade bangle should be 1,000 kwai, so if someone offers it to you anywhere near that price its fake, but dont worry about it, you have to be a real connosseir to notice, as it takes the dyed stuff years and years to discolour. If you don't get a chance to go to Yu Hua Tai, get your Yu Hua Shi here, as you wont find them outside of Nanjing.
The restaurants around the edge are relatively expensive by Chinese terms, but pretty reasonable if you are on the tourist trail, either way they take a pride in their food and you get a real treat with very good customer service.
So in short its tacky its hawkish, but totally brilliant and fun, especially on a cold evening when the lights are on.

A lot of the temple looks very ancient, but a lot of it was built in the late 20th century. The temple consists of several buildings, including a tea house where musicians perform traditional music in period costumes.
There is a big shopping area outside the museum; NEVER pay the asking price for anything, always bargain down to 1/2 or 1/4 of the original price. Also, never buy jade there; everyone says it's probably fake.
This is a must-see when in Nanjing.
