Yishang Hot Springs (EA Hot Springs) - a great soaking experience
5.0 of 5 bubblesOct 2017
Yishang Hot Springs (颐尚温泉 Yí shàng wēnquán) in the Tangshan mountain area near Nanjing, also known as EA Hot Springs, consists of an attractive collection of soaking hot springs pools scattered around a beautiful garden. There are dozens of pools, each with its own size, shape and water temperature. They are semi-secluded, hidden behind the trees and shrubs of the garden. Each pool has a theme - there is a bag with infusion of different herbs to make each pool unique. The water temperature is pleasant, but a few pools are very hot. Service is outstanding - in several cases attendants will show up at a pool and serve you tea according to the theme of the pool. So you get buckwheat tea in the buckwheat pool and oolong tea in another pool. The pools are all outdoors (except for one) but there may be another part of the resort with indoor pools which was closed when we visited. The locker rooms and showers are modern and clean. Towels, bath robes, straw hats and slippers are provided. It is a day spent in the lap of luxury. Transportation to Yishang in season is simple. Supposedly there is a direct minivan from the main bus station in Nanjing, just north of the train station, which goes there directly. Out of season there are two options - the simple and the fast. The simple option is to take bus number 208 from the main bus station (the stop is outside, just north of the station building) to the Yishang access road in the village of Tangshan. The trip takes about an hour and costs a few RMB. From the bus stop it is about 20 minutes walk along the access road uphill, then downhill, to the hot springs. Alternatively, take the red subway line and get off at Xianhemen station, from which you can pick up the bus. You will save about half the time of the bus trip that way.

Tangshan is only a 30 minute drive from Nanjing city center. It was a great weekend trip. We went on a cold January where it was like -5 degrees out and it was still enjoyable. I think we stayed at Easpring (or East spring? Hotel). Forgot the spelling. But there are a number of resorts here, I recommend booking in advance. Their layout is all about the same. You go in through the locker rooms to change into your bathing suits. Towels are provided. Then you get to the hot springs area and the big resorts have a number of them. The one we stayed at had maybe 20 or so different ones with different themes. There were heated stone floors you could just lay down at. Pools that were way too hot for my kids and other pools that were less hot. Most of them will have a fish pool (where the little fishies come and eat the dead skin off of you). My kids got a kick out of that, but it was pretty gross cause there were dead fishes too. So we had to really shower them after. The hotel we stayed at had a cafeteria inside the hot spring area, so you really could spend a whole day there relaxing and eating. I imagined most resorts would have a similar layout. I hear there are public hot springs too, but I haven't been and can't comment.

By far the best thing to do in Nanjing.
We got here from the metro all the way to Maqun station. Then we took a taxi (about 50 kuai) and used the GPS coordinates from Trip Advisor. Our taxi driver was confused when he pulled up and said that the place didnt have hot springs, but he was wrong! The place is a RV park and it has a big sign that says "Tea hot springs" and it is in the middle of nowhere.
We had no idea what the hours were and arrived at 9am. They told us it only opened at 12 and they said they could possibly open early!!! So nice. We asked if they had food anywhere (I would recommend bringing your own because it really is in the middle of nowhere) and they had a cute Chinese woman make us breakfast for 100 kuai for 5 people. They opened the pools early at 10:30 and we stayed until 2:30. Definitely take your time and soak it in.
The customer service was the best we recieved in China.. ever.
They have towells, lockers, and shower shoes that are all included in the price. They also supply water so dont worry about bringing any of those things.
I would recommend going early in the morning or late in the day (I believe they are open until 10pm) as it is cooler. The different teas in the hot springs were amazing and we loved every second. We even took an hour nap in this little tile room they have that is heated!
10/10 would go again!!!!!
