Took ages to sort out mailing 2 simple parcels. Firstly the building is messy and dirty. It looks like a developing country's office. Secondly, at 4pm today ( Tuesday) half attended. only a few busy staff up and downstairs. the machine which you will need to inout all your data into is hidden right in the back corner and isnt that easy to use. Line didnt move. 40 depressed looking people slowly shuffling. I counted more than half enpty booth on both floors. Staff tried their best and i ended up doing speed post which worked fine but you have to register the parcel upstairs then go down again... In total an hour and it wasnt even rush hour. The branches at Wyndham and Connaught are much better- theres someone as you come in at connaught who imediately help confised looking foreigners. I wasted time and money today. Good luck at the central branch.

Not a tourist site, but this is a very convenient Post Office to know about because it has long opening hours and is open even on Sundays - very handy if you have a last minute need to send home shopping that simply won’t fit into suitcases. Built in 1976, it is a squat structure with an austere white exterior, in the Modernist style. It’s not a pretty building but it was never meant to be. It’s very much ‘form follows function’. K.M. Tseng, the local architect said he intended the exterior to be “a truthful expression of what goes on within the concrete walls.” However the row of arched canopies, the deep-set windows and the two-tiered structure gives it a certain retro style. An unexpectedly nice touch inside, is an old decorative arch which was saved from the previous Victorian era Post Office before it was demolished. It reads “As cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country”. Interestingly, the Post Office site marks the 1960s coastline. I always find it surprising to see a physical reminder of just how far aggressive land reclamation has reduced the harbour. Sadly the Post Office’s days are probably numbered. It’s been under threat for some time, with renewed efforts to demolish it being in the news recently. Admittedly it is a prime site and, despite ongoing public resistance, it is earmarked for a high-end commercial block. At this stage, the Post Office will be relocated to Kowloon Bay in 2023.
