You can’t leave Hong Kong without spending some time around or on Victoria Harbour. It’s true that the harbour has been subjected to rampant development over the years and that land reclamation has reshaped and shrunk its shores, but it is still a beautiful, colourful and exciting harbour. Even if you have limited time in Hong Kong, I’d recommend taking the Star Ferry across the harbour. As far as transport goes, it’s as iconic as a gondola in Venice, a San Francisco tram or a London double-decker.
Recently the waterfront promenades along both sides of the harbour have been upgraded and are now beautiful, open walkways along the harbour front.
On one side, the Central Promenade runs from the Star Ferry piers to Wan Chai and is a wide, flat path with several viewing decks, art installations, landscaped parkland and seating areas. Opposite, on the TST side, another promenade allows you to walk from the Star Ferry, along the Avenue of the Stars. It’s hard to say which walk is better but keep in mind that from the TST side, you get to look across at the famous Hong Kong city skyline. In the evening, it’s the best spot to watch the Symphony of Lights play out across the Hong Kong buildings.

Hong Kong's stunning Victoria Harbour is a geographical highlight for pretty much all visitors to the city. It is where the British first arrived and developed the modern city we have today, directly upon her shores and there are numerous ways to enjoy time on and around this magnificent body of water.
Numerous hotels, restaurants, a handful of bars and even our Museum of Art offer excellent views of Victoria Harbour. There are nicely developed promenades and leisure parks on both sides of the harbour in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island as well, from which you can enjoy mornings, afternoons and evenings admiring the views of the water and skylines on both sides. Visitors can also enjoy short rides across the harbour on the historic Star Ferry as well as longer, slower rides around the harbour with Star Ferry and other companies.
In the end, there are many ways to enjoy Victoria Harbour. As locals we do so regularly, as a visitor to Hong Kong, you will want to as well.

How many cruise ships you can have abreast in this harbor? I think only one. This harbor is too narrow. Sad!

Some areas are not very well signposted, can be tricky to find the waterfront, but worth the effort.

This is not a harbor, they turned it into a creek. The ocean has been reclaimed so many times, and is ongoing, it will be a creek soon!

Victoria Harbor was first referenced in Zheng He's sailing maps of the Chinese coast in 1426 but it was not until 1810 that the East India Company drew detailed maps of the harbor. Victoria harbor is 16.17 square miles is both deep and sheltered Because of it's strategic location it became a primary trading center and supported British colonization of South East Asia. Even today Victoria Harbor is used by thousands of international vessels each year despite increasing use of Singapore harbors.
The best views of the harbor are from the Pearl tower atop Victoria Peak or at the Cultural Center of Tsim Sha on the Kewloon side of the harbor. Fireworks are part of Victoria Harbors draw and are a grand sight. The Chinese New Year festivities are spectacular and highlighted with a large production called the "Symphony of Lights".
Where once there were many small business owners along the harbor and promenade, today many have been driven out by high rents and replaced by large corporate interests like Samsung. Land reclamation and pollution have further deteriorated the harbor. Despite these changes, tourists and locals alike still swarm to the harbor for recreation and shopping.
There are three cross-harbor road tunnels, three mass transit railway routes, the Star Ferry and First Ferry, all capable of getting you cross the harbor or to other nearby islands.

Everyone talks about the views but Hong Kong takes mass transportation to whole another level.
There are small wooden boats to huge cruise ships, tunnels, bridges, ferries, cargo ships, trains criss crossing under water and 20 years ago there was an airport too. Right in the middle of all this.
And it all runs systemically like a clock without colliding with one another. Victoria Harbour is not only delight for your eyes but efficiently smooth as well.

It is the same Victoria but scenes from both sides are quite different. If you are taking ferry from TST to Central, you can see lots of. Oder building and the beautiful peak. On the other hand, you get a rich view of Kowloon and New territories from Central to TST. Which one would you prefer?. I would say why not both!

You can stay as long as you like. No one can predict whether or not the current situation will be stable when you are here, and when your are here, where in the greater Hong Kong area you will be other than around Victoria Harbor. At best it is a flip-the-coin situation. The odds-are-good that you would have no problems. But there are no guarantees. Best Wishes if you visit. I've been to Kolkata many times.

There is only one night and sound show at 8:00 every night. However you can still walk along the harbour side to enjoy the lighting on the two sides. Tsim Sha Tsui is a good place to do so. Just wanna remind you, MTR is usually off at about 0030. Enjoy!

E' un centro direzionale ricco di ristoranti, hotel e centri commerciali. C'è anche un centro congressi ed un quartiere fieristico. C'è un punto di partenza del traghetto per godersi in serata lo Skyline di Hong Kong

You can visit all day long. During the day there is much activity and sightseeing tours and at night, the nighttime sparkles with the twinkling lights of the building. Night shopping on both sides of the harbour are open and there is a lot of entertainments that go with it. The city and harbour come alive at night. This is an opportunity not to be missed.
