This is a breath-taking sight when you first get to the top of Longevity Hill. An enormous lake - in Beijing they don't do "small"!

We live in Beijing for 11 years now, and every year we visit the Summer Palace in another season. The lake and surroundings are best in April - May with all the trees and shrubs flowering so rich.

Great for photo ops. The bridge leading across it to a temple is cute. A boat trip could also be the highlight of your day.

Before you visit the Summer Palace you must read the history associated with it to get a full understanding of the amazing sights. Take a boat ride on one of the many boats on the lake.
