Located in the heart of modern China and the site for massive parades and rallies, this was the site when in 1949, from a rostrum on the Gate of Heavenly Peace, Chairman Mao announced the establishment of the People's Republic of China.

When I first came to Beijing I was amazed by the size of the square. To the north is the Forbidden City which is a must to see. Surrounded by large government buildings you cannot miss the square on a visit to Beijing

Wow what a place, steeped in history. It was busy when we arrived here but the square is so big it didn't fee that way. Must visit.

The history of this place isn’t more impressive than the place itself. We drove around it, as it was closed for the Communist Party Congress. Not a must see place, as far as I can tell.
