This two-story arched wooden structure once held 25 drums which, in combination with bells in the Bell Tower, were once used to indicate the time of day. Only one drum remains today, which is beaten four times a day for 15 minutes.

The Drum Tower has been open for visits for some years but the Bell Tower was made accessible for visitors only in about 2015. These two buildings tower over Peking, on a north south axis with the forbidden city. Each marked points in the day. The Bell Tower is a sober, tiled roof brick structure. A very steep climb is... This is worth doing only to understand more of the heritage and history of the city. Do take the time to participate in the Tea Ceremony.

Be sure to climb to the top of the two towers, and enjoy the wonderful view of the inner city. From the bell tower you have a great view of The Forbidden City. At the Bell tower you can also still hear the drums being played.

Everyone was pointing us to different directions when we asked them for this place. The steps up the towers are pretty steep, suits those into cultures & history. There's a drum performance almost every hour during the day except for lunch. So ask when you are there.

There is no point at arriving early, since the monuments open to the public at 09:00; earlier admission is only for guided tours. Every hour, at the :30 mark, there is a drum concert (5 minutes long) in the drum hall at the top of the (what else?) Drum Tower. Getting there is not for the faint of heart; the... More

The two towers provide for an average photo shoot with little by way to offer for a stop over. You may want to avoid this visit if on a schedule

First thing to say: If you have any kind of cardiorespiratory disease don't go to this place! There is a humongously steep set of stairs that you have to negotiate that is impossible for anyone who is usually averse to physical exercise. But if you can get to the top it's worth it for the view and if you get... More

Really interesting and if you are lucky enough to be there when they are drumming, it is well worth the climb, which is steep, especially if you have short legs!

The towers themselves are interesting, but the real attraction here are the hutong neighborhoods just east of the towers,
