Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I spent 6hrs shopping Joy city Shopping Mall alone.
Getting back to the hotel from here is tough. The taxis won't stop, I don't know why. I managed to get one after approximately 30-40minutes of flagging and walking to other parts of the streets.
Prices are not cheap though, comparable with back home. But definitely they carry brands that I seldom see- some japanese clothing.
Toilets here are horrible even though it looks like great mall. No locks at all- yikes!
Warning about the traffic - you will hardly get any taxi after 3pm (tour guide told me that locals knock off at 3pm-5pm so there will be jams and almost everyone is trying to get a cab). In fact, you can hardly get any taxi here.
Locals won't understand "taxi" even though it's stated on the cab itself. They call it "Ta Che" or something else which I can't remember.

This is a long street filled with malls carrying international brands. The prices are relatively higher in Beijing as compared to Singapore.
We went into Joy shopping mall and was amused that such a posh shopping mall built their toilet doors with locks! So, you could actually see people inside.
If you are not keen on international brands shopping, there are some alleys that allows you to do cheap shopping for local mass manufactured clothes and accessories. There is also a mall that hosts many little mini shops selling clothes, accessories, shoes and bags. If I didn't recall wrongly, it's located near 77th Street underground mall and Starbucks.

I currently live in Beijing and I visit almost weekly. The shopping is divine and I very rarely see tourists. It is definitely a local hangout. One of my favourite things to do is to grab Starbucks (or Costa Coffe if you prefer) and people watch. There are stores that range from fast fashion with Zara and H&M to classic at the Gap and the fancier stuff at DKNY etc. There is pretty much something for everyone. Almost every beauty brand is represented in the department stores for my fellow cosmetics junkies. There is also a fantastic market that has so much stuff and at super cheap prices (if you haggle like you mean it haha). Definitely haggle because they will try to rip you off if you're obviously foreign. Decide what you want and look for it in multiple stalls to compare prices. Overall, Xidan rocks.

West of Tiananmen Square, this is one of the shopping streets with megamalls, outdoor markets, small shops, restaurants and entertainment centres. Everything from high end products to bargains, can be found on this street. Xidan is more popular among the locals as it cheaper compared to Wanfujing.

We stayed in this area, and went up and down the street a few times... You can get everything here, and it is actually not very touristy... Great restaurants in the malls, and a good place to spot locals... Not a Must see in Beijing, but if in the area....

This is a perfect blend of eastern and western, luxury and lower end budget shops all in one area. There is a very high end on one end called Galeries Lafayette and then the Xidan Mall. Wedding places in one corner and yes, even your KFC and Pizza Hut. This area is quite easy to find as I got off on exit F of line 4 at Xidan and then you walk about 600 meters.

Exit xidan station from the subway, this short walk includes big malls from left to right with some restaurants, they have a mall galleries lafayette similar to the one on paris. Everything is expensive so if you don't need to buy those, then don't bother.

Good for a shopping stroll - there's a good selection of malls and shops that sell a wide variety of fashion, China goods and electronics as well.
