My son and I visited Wanping Fortress by taking the subway to Dawayao Station on Line 14, and then a 5 minute taxi ride. The history of the bridge and the fortress is fascinating, however the Memorial Park, Anti-Japanese Museum and Fortress Wall are currently closed, and as a result all the shops and restaurants within the ancient town are shut. Taken here by hosts and felt privilege to be able to experience views from the top of the fortress around the walled city, we were told this is not opened to tourists. You would not go there strictly to walk the street. This is an area full of history and the highlight is Lugou bridge. While there you must also visit the Museum of the war against Japanese.
