Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The marble boat is located on the man made lake of the Summer Palace. It is a bit of a walk to see it but if you carry on walking towards the pagoda you cannot miss it. I'm not sure it goes anywhere because it seemed stationary and looks heavy to be floating . Worth seeing it since the summer palace is a definite must when in Beijing

The Qingyan Stone boat is one of the attractions in the Summer Palace, which was built by the Empress Cixi, in the beginning of the 20th century. It is an excellent piece of work and one of the many attractions to watch for this site. The whole area including the boat is well worth to visit, no one should miss it!

The Marble Boat at the Summer Place will be a tourist attraction for most tourists who visit the Summer Palace. Both the Marble Boat and Summer Palace are excesses of the dynasty that ultimately led to Sun Yatsen’s revolution.
The Marble Boat was built in 1755 with a base made from huge stones.
Empress Dowager Cixi had the boat rebuilt in 1893 using a Western design.
She financed the rebuilding using funds embezzled from the navy. The boat's name was changed to Qingyan Fang and provided a venue for Cixi to view the scenery and be entertained.
When the empire was facing a military and political crisis, Cixi embezzled more funds to rebuild the Summer Palace under the guise of naval development.

Why only a 2 * rating ?
Because it is not really worth it.
You won't visit the Summer Palace just because of it...
And If you are there I don't even believe it is really worth the walk.
They are plenty of other things much more beautiful or interesting in the park, around the lake, near or in the buildings themselves...
But if you walk along the promenade on your way to the long and superb corridor you can stop there to take a look ... and probably a picture like everybody...
And since you can't get on it that's the most you'll probably do...

Disappointing, so much history. But the boat look old and falling apart. Getting a photo can be a challenge as there will be a 1000 chinese people trying to take photo as well.

A delightful piece of whimsy.
Built to replace an actual boat there is no way this is every going to floaty, as it's made of marble.
The upper section is faux marble - wood painted to look like

Located to the western side of the Long Gallery at the Summer Palace the Quinyan (or 'Marble') Boat was built by the Emperor Quinlong as a symbol that the Qing Dynasty was as stable and enduring as a rock. It is not particularly interesting by itself - though is a good background for photos. But, if you at are the Summer Palace anyway it is worth a look.

When you visit the Summer Palace you will eventually wander to where this boat is located at the edge of the lake. Certainly interesting to view, and quite impressive. Of course this was not practical to be built, but it does show the wealth of the time it was made.

This marble boat was built by emperor Qianlong in 1755 within the summer palace on the Kunming lake . A long wooden covered bridge is leading to it . Actually made of wood and painted as if made of marble. The emperor was criticized for wasting the funds that was designated to build a naval force .
