We went late in the day in December so we only saw a few things and one exhibit. I think this would be a good place for the right person and especially good if you found an exhibit you wanted to see. When we went there was a Man Ray exhibit but it was small and a little overpriced at 150 RMB per person. A bonus for the Man Ray exhibit is that we got a beer coupon for a nearby craft beer bar!
Expect to spend a couple of hours here and I would recommend going in the early afternoon so you get some daylight to wander a bit and find something open that you would like to see. It is easy to Didi here but we found it was tricky to get out of the area.

Went to Beijing for a business trip. I had only one day free. Decided to see 798 art zone and found it very amusing.

This is an interesting place to wander round. How much you enjoy it will depend on how well you choose which galleries to go in. There is a lot of coffee shops to get a beverage.

The whole art zone at 798 is huge. However cars are allowed to drive in so walking around is not that comfortable. Plenty of art studios and boutiques there. Lots of cafes too. Lovely to spend a whole day there!

Such an interesting area to explore! The area has a completely different feel to the rest of Beijing with many old factory buildings converted into walkways, art murals and galleries. There are also lots of nice restaurants and cafes dotted around the district. I would highly recommend spending a few hours waling around and enjoying the unusual and exciting art work.

This is a must-visit for art lovers -- even the casual ones like me. Simply walking around the district is a wonderful experience. There are many tiny interesting idie shops around as well for clothes, art, knick knacks, music, instruments, etc. I really enjoyed shopping in this cozy district. There are also many cafes and small restaurants that are homey and unique.
Of course, the main attraction is the art that's found just anywhere -- on the streets, random walls, and shops.
Definitely visit this place when you go to Beijing.

Art galleries are scattered around the place. It has a rustic feel to it because of old factory buildings. Walking around can get a bit uncomfortable under the sun, if weather is nice then its ok. If one is not into art then the place does'nt have much else to offer.

15mins walk away from the metro station. The free of charge zone is a labyrinth of graffiti and art structures, alongside some concept stores. Many instagram worthy places. There is also the old railway place with a train still there. Definitely recommended if you have any form of interest in arts.

Are the galleries open every day?

Agree with previous comments. Each gallery has its own schedule. Unfortunately, there is not a single resource (that I can find) where you can find this information in advance unless you know exact gallery you are going to and try to find it online

Is there a place to leave luggage? We will be visiting on our way to the airport for our departure. Is it safe to ask a taxi to stop there and to watch our bags for a couple hours or is there a place we can store luggage while we walk around? Thank you.

I believe that many of the galleries are open at night, and there are a number of terrific bars and restaurants that will be open at night. I do not think the museum is, however, open at night.

I was there earlier in the day, not past 6. But it is a big place, with lots of restaurants and other businesses that will be open late. Many of the galleries may be closed by 6, but there will be a lot to see.
