Really excited to arrive and grabbed an expensive coffee from the cafe and set off. The coffee was not a good idea. This stretch of the wall is very steep - burns the legs and lungs in no time. The steps seemed to range in depth from 20cm to 60cm - good, strong legs required to negotiate these. Arrived early... More

If you are pressed for time, this is the closest portion of the Wall to Beijing, less than an hour from downtown Beijing if you can beat the rush hour traffic. You can drive right to the entrance of the Wall by going to Gate 4. The washrooms outside the Gate 4 are better than the ones inside. If you... More

A bit disappointed as there was no cable car to go up, couldn't find a good point for photo. Should have go to Badaling or Mutianyu.

Walked this section of the wall and was there for opening time. Since we were the first ones there, we were able to walk on the wall before alot of other tourists arrived so was able to experience walking on sections of the wall alone. The first sections of the wall are very steep but give great views of the... More

We started walking until the 5th tower and discovered that it was posible to climb up to the top. As we climbed, less people climbed with us but arriving to the last tower is satisfying and the view is breathtaking making it posible to take the best pictures from both sides of the wall. Truly worth the climb. However, it... More

Literally and figuratively it was the high point of our tour. Out of the 30 of us 6 reached the 12th Fortress which is the last destination on this climb. At the 11th fortress you can get a gold medal (30 RMB) etched with your name and date for the achievement. Should keep 1/2litre water bottle as the climb can... More

A great place to tour. Lots of info here to learn about history, culture and life style of ancient China. It is highly recommend to hire a private ride with local taxi service and must go early in the morning to avoid traffic and large crowd.

I have always wanted to stand on the Great Wall. This location offers amazing views and a real sense of the history. Be careful, the steps are uneven and can be difficult at parts. Was there in Nov and it was extremely cold and windy (dress warm!) It is absolutely worth the trek.

Because I was part of a tour group I really only had 45 minutes so I hiked up to the East Mountain Archery tower. There was a souvenir shop there and I so badly needed a ice cream to reward myself. It was the best part of my trip, I had to come to enjoy the great wall. It is... More

Visiting the Great Wall is a must do when in China. There are different sections of the wall that can be visited, so ensure you do a bit of research to find out which ones are more suitable to your circumstances (time, fitness condition, accessibility, etc.). This section of the wall does have a very steep set of steps, but... More
