The old town is fascinating and makes for great pictures. We hired a guide for 1200 KHs at Fort Jesus and he showed us around. That also made us feel safer and more comfortable taking pictures.

Date of visit: 28th Dec 2018 For the old town tour a local guide is a must, a local lady told us we should be careful with phones and cameras and also where we walk. My opinion the streets were abit dirty and some places...More

This is what I like to experience when I travel. Crowded streets and a lot of history. Walk down the narrow streets and take a look at the colonial buildings and markets. There's lot of spices here, I you want to purchase. The history of...More

Pretty funky spot, not much to see except some of the shops. There’s a nice antique store, an amazing furniture store, a nice waterfront restaurant, and a lovely jewelry store. Don’t go after dark.

Any old town is worth exploring especially in Mombasa, with buildings dating from the 16th century, built even before the nearby Portuguese Fort Jesus (late 16th century). The lanes are full of old structures with beautiful wooden balconies, probably the Swahili version of the original...More

I'ts the old part of town, so touristic just by accident which is not meant in a negative way but I find it hard to rate since it's just a place where people live and I don't really see what to rate. Old Town and...More

The old Town never gets old. Thanks to the repair works done by Museums of Kenya in conjunction with the UNESCO and the local community.

I got a driver from my resort to take me around for a few hours, it’s not expensive. Mombasa’s Old Town is one of the key historical tourist attractions on Mombasa Island. It is located on the southeast side of Mombasa and occupies an area...More

We went to Old town with friends. One has options to pay a local guide. One is advised to not walk alone there. It is safe for the most part, but there are areas that one should be careful. The buildings are a site to...More

First of all, Jada, good choice on Mombasa. It's a fascinating city. You probably won't need any kind of a guide for the Old Town, just a map. And in fact, there are maps of the Old Town posted at the near end (facing Fort... More
