My partner and I had a wonderful time at Freeman Safaris in the Masai Mara region. The primary standout here was the staff. Everyone who works at the camp was incredibly generous - making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived to our final day. My partner was celebrating his birthday and they were so great about helping me create a little celebration for him. We felt so at home here, between the delicious home cooked meals that were served every evening to our debriefs with Brian and his staff every night sitting by a cozy fire. The accommodations are clean and all our basic needs were met, including daily laundry service. We also had a great guide (shout out to Milton!) who made sure we saw all the animals we hoped to and knew the geography of the region better than anyone. He navigated the rocky terrain like a pro and made sure to provide us with colorful facts about all the animals everywhere we went. Freeman is happy to have you stay out all day if you want and they were so great about packing us meals to go and making sure we maximized every minute we were there.

Last but not least, I like to run in the mornings and was concerned there wouldn’t be an adequate place to do so, being on the savannah and all and preferring eating breakfast over being breakfast. The staff offered to drive the car behind me while I ran for safety reasons and even joined me on a couple early morning runs! I will never forget that experience as long as I live. Asante, Freeman Safaris! You made our trip so very special and we can’t wait for our next adventure in the Masai Mara already.

We were a group of 10 people who stayed at Freemans Safari Camp in Masai Mara for a 5 day safari in August 2024
It was fantastic! Up at 5am for a 6 am start, Milton was our Masai driver. He was awesome! And he proved one morning in front of us that he can do 30 pushups consecutively! We remain impressed even today! He knew exactly where to find the animals and birds, he was patient and knowlegeable about their behaviour and habits who was always considerate of our personal safety regarding the proximity of the animals.
The food was always very good, dinner was always a hearty 3 course affair. Everything Peter, the cook, made was delicious and plentiful. We loved the nightly ritual of reurning from a long day's game safari to sit nerar the fire pit and enjoy a drink or three and nibble on the little samosas passed around while recounting the amazing sights and experiences from the day's adventures.
Amigo, the waiter, was always very attentive and considerate in meeting your needs whether it was for a drink or food order or something more personal that you might need help with.
On some game safari days we were treated to the kitchen crew driving out at lunchtime and setting up a table with a freshly prepared feast under a shady acacia tree with chairs and serving delicious food and cool drinks out on the savannah . Very"Out of Africa"!It was a luxurious experience, and a very special and memorable one. Jacki was a delightful personality who was always very helpful and great to talk to. She was so considerate and helpful when I experienced a short lived period of ill health, during our stay Thank you so much Jacki for your kindness and assistance at this time.
Brian was a great source of local knowledge about the Masai Mara having lived there for 40 years. He is also a crack photographer. His photographs adorn the dining area of the lodge. They are truly impressive. In fact, I asked him if they were shot in a studio as the animals are so perfectkly captured looking directly at the camera in family groups often accompanied by their cubs. Incredible captures! And his photos of the wilderbeest migration are astonishing-
portraying the claustrophobic mass of thousands of anxious animals plunging through the river in a desperate urge to get to the other side knowing there were hidden dangers to navigate on their perilous journey.
I would not hesitate in highly recommending Freeman's Safari Camp for your next Masai Mara adventure. You will be rewarded with amazing experiences, friendly staff, great food and a lifetime of memories.

I just spent 4 nights in this beautiful unfenced camp where everything is done to enjoy every aspect of nature, the tented and glass-wall rooms with view on a water hole, or the windows in the ceiling offering direct view on the stars illuminating the night sky. The camp was recommended to me by a friend and I have enjoyed every minute! Mr Freeman and Jacky warmly welcome guests personally each day, the chef is fantastic and all staff members extremely kind. I have been driving around in a Land Rover with Milton, a passionate young guide able to spot the best sightings, and to position the jeep in the best manner for both the sighting and the photos. The camp proposes for those who like it, to spend full days in the reserve, which is what I did...so we left every morning at 5h45, and were back around 18h. There was always tea, coffee, cake, breakfast and delicious lunches packed for us.
I will certainly go back to this camp in my future stay in the Masai Mara!

I decided to go back to Mara in low season to see what the differences were from a trip I did last September. I was not disappointed. I was made to feel so welcome by Brian and the Team.
There were less vehicles around and the I saw lions with cubs cheetahs and one leopard.
My driver Milton was excellent and did his best to get me in a good position to take photographs.
I saw a zebra with her new born baby and a giraffe with her new born calf. These were very special to see.
I would recommend Freemans Safaris as the accommodation is very good. The food and ambience is great. I always feel like a celebrity when I am escorted from my vehicle back to my tent. I feel very safe as a single female travelling on her own

Thank you for making my experience very special

Brian and his staff are specialized in photography safaris, they are hands down the best in the business. More, they will cater for your every need (splendid spacious accommodation, laundry service, delicious homemade cooking) to make sure you can focus 100% on your photography. The whole staff is extremely helpful and has impeccable manners. The drivers, in my case mighty Ruben, are well acquainted with demanding professional photographers and will make sure you come home with the best pictures. The warm welcome of the whole team makes you feel like part of the family. I'm just back from my 5 days trip and already making plans for next year's visit to the Mara with Brian.

wow - just amazing. From the 'just ask' nothing is too much trouble approach, the hospitality, accommodation, food, and crucially the ability to be totally flexible in terms of time in the park; all day drives or part days; the experience with Freemans surpassed our expectations (and we set these pretty high). To cap it all our driver / guide managed to ensure we were invariably in the right place, at the right time in terms of all the action.

if you are a photographer, or just an avid wildlife fan, we would hugely recommend Freemans for your trip. We made a late adjustment to our booking to visit Lake Naivasha (again absolutely no trouble and undertaken without hesitation) before driving down to the reserve, and were just simply blown away with the variety of wildlife on the doorstep. Amazing.

Ray and Karen, February 2023.

Brian Freeman was born and bred in Kenya. He has crossed all Africa with his landrover but Kenya is his home and his home and the safari camp are inside the Masai Mara nature reserve. In short if you have not been on a safari with Brian, you simply have not had a true safari experience. I discovered Brian and his camp 20 years ago through the network of professional wildlife photographers. At the time, without the social media hype, if you were a photographer Brian was your number one choice to get results. I feel fortunate that my two kids have experienced the true Africa through Brian's eyes and stories. My eldest son has been going to his safari camp for the last 10 years. This July 2013 I also took my 10 year old son. We had a ball. We saw so many animals and Brian's expert Masai guide kept telling us such valuable information on animal behavior. We used Brian's heavily modified Landrover (see photo). I mean there is nothing left on this heavily modified car just for photographers. The program was flexible: we could either have a pic nic snack and return for luch and leave again for the afternoon drive or we could take lunch with us and stay out all day. The tents are spacious and the staff will do anything to make your stay comfortable. This is not a place to come if you are on a diet. Chef Peter from Nairobi prepares irresistible food choices. He will even take into account your dietary preferences. But if you go, you must try his panacota with passion fruit. You will love it even if you are Italian. Needless to say we intend to return as a family to this wonderful camp and its host Brian Freeman.

Amazing trip - my husband thinks this even beats our honeymoon! My advice is just go. We got up close and personal thanks to Reuben with all the wildlife. We were never crowded as many lead you to believe the Mara is...even where there are cars there is an etiquette and everyone gets decent shots and viewings. Reuben is skilled at anticipating the movement of animals so we always ended up in the best place far from other cars. So the game drives truly were excellent. The car is completely open so again great shots and excitingly close to wildlife only on one occasion was a zoom lens needed. Now to Brian and the team. They were incredibly hospitable and wonderful hosts it was like having dinner with old friends every day. Alex created the best meals I have ever had on a daily basis (I live in London so I am used to great food). Duncan, Blacky and Francis were fantastic and Jackie is just great fun to be around and taught me a lot. Thank you to Brian who has created a Manyatta worthy of a 5 star rating with stunning rooms and buildings (the room and mess were stunning and more than comfortable) and for allowing us to be part of his world - we will be back! Word of advice we stayed for 4 nights and easily could have stayed for more - grab a drink and you can easily relax instead of doing a beach at the Manyatta and watch the wildlife pass by your room.

This was the fourth time we have been with Brian and his team at Mara Photographic Safaris and, as usual, it lived up to our expectations. It was our first time staying in the new cottages and using the new mess area. They all work extremely well with the food and facilities being second to none. Our driver knew exactly what he was doing and got us in the right position at the right time without causing a problem to the animals or others. The vehicles were well designed giving me the ability of getting those all-important low angle photographs. A big thank you Brian, Jackie, Duncan, Alex and the rest of the crew for giving us a very welcome return to travelling after covid. Can’t wait to go back again.
