Description:

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) Elephant Nursery in Nairobi...

The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) Elephant Nursery in Nairobi National Park provides a safe haven to orphaned baby elephants rescued by the DSWT.

The Nursery provides the first stage in the hand-rearing and development of milk dependent baby elephants. Once they graduate from the Nursery, aged 2-3 years, the elephants move to one of the DSWT's Reintegration Centres in Tsavo East National Park, from where they will ultimately return to the wild.

I wonderful experience. Make sure you arrive early as you are only able to see the elephants in the morning. They are brought out, fed and are close enough to touch. Which is encouraged. A highly recommend outing.

It's only opened for one hour, but it is a great experience where you can see all the baby elephants and their personal stories on how they got there. You can also touch them and if you wish you have the option to foster an elephant or rhino.

If you ever dreamt of coming close to heaviest land mammals this is the chance. The place is only open strictly for an hour . 11am to 12 noon. Special visit can be arranged if you've sponsored an elephant.

We had been to this place twice before. The work done here with the orphaned elephants is very important and must be applauded. However, when we have been before we had to book in advance and numbers were limited. This time the world and his wife was there and it was far too crowded. People not respecting the need to... As a huge animal lover and supporter, I was so excited to be going to Sheldricks, especially as we foster 2 elephants and the baby giraffe. As a program and given what they do, it’s an amazing place. The staff were clearly dedicated to the animals and that was beautiful to see. Having been on Safari since it drives home... More

You get to see how this organization nurses orphaned elephants. It's fun to see them bottle fed and learn about their upbringing.

If the sight of orphan elephants running down the slope to be bottle fed doesn't melt your heart then you deserve to be pelted with wet mud as they frolic in the pond!

What an amazing experience to see the baby elephants up close and personal. The babies are fed from 11AM-Noon daily. They are brought into a roped off enclosure, 12 at a time beginning with the youngest, bottle fed, then allowed to drink water, get a dirt bath, a mud bath, and play with each other. You are allowed to touch... More
