Nairobi Station, and all the stations along the line including Mombasa, is new and clean and great credit to Kenyan investment and Chinese construction. Allow extra time for the three security checks to get into the station at Nairobi. Very busy and chaotic. The first...More

When we were figuring out ways to get from Nairobi to Mombasa, we read multiple articles on the internet that recommended the new train. It apparently crossed a national park, giving one a chance to spot animals. We checked with our tour operator who agreed...More

The train from Nairobi to Mombasa is busy. You need to book your tickets in advance. If you are a foreigner but have a Kenya Sim, and want to use your phone, they don't take credit card. You need to have m-presa. I don't, but...More

We enjoyed our ride to and from Nairobi to Mombasa. The ride was smooth without the stress of the highway. The coaches can get a little warm sometimes and the seats are nice but a bit firm and sit up fairly straight. We rode second...More

Most of the negativity in this review is mainly my fault. Naively I thought this train journey would be like Xian to Shanghai. Far from it. Negatives - little trolley food, cramped, too hot (aircon nonexistent and 26c for most of the journey), 6 hours...More

The train service is good, based on Kenyan standards though. It is fast and very efficient. A relatively cost effective and time saving way of moving from Mombasa to Nairobi. We had some great views of Tsavo.

For the second time in the space of about 10 months I opted to try out the SGR train to Mombasa. Travelling time on the nonstop train now appears to be longer by almost half an hour compared to the last journey which included a...More

After a long wait i decided to board the new train from nairobi to mombasa. My experience was as follows: 1: rude and arrogant security personnel outside the station-they were more interested in items they could confiscate than actual security check ups. 2: stiff, crammed,...More

The express arrives in the evening, but the inter country train arrives early afternoon. The train stops for two, three minutes only on each station. I enjoyed the inter country train.

I am pretty sure the cost covers luggage, we had quite a lot of luggage too. It will all be screened but this wasn’t too much of a problem. Be aware though that the only place on the train we were on for luggage was... More
