Visited the island after going to the kisite mpunguti marine park. Inhabitants originally were from Tanzania. We got to see the beautiful coral gardens along a boardwalk courtesy of the women who inhabit the island. I have never seen anything spectacular than that in my life. Enjoyed lunch with a view of the coral gardens. You have to visit this... More

So Wasini Island makes for a nice day trip, but if you're not excited about touristy things or you've been spoiled by pristine coral reefs, this is not for you. Getting onto boats to head out the island, you will be hounded by people who want to sell you stuff that you can give out for free on the island... More

Visiting Wasini Island and marine reserve makes a good day out and day trip from Mombasa. You have to get there early - by 9 am - to get a place on the dhows that take you round and it's a good idea to arrange this in advance from a tour guide for example that you will inevitably meet on... More

Its hard to rate nature anything lower than a 5 really. Didn't get to swim with the dolphins but snorkeling was enough for me to get excited. Went with a tour group called Kisite-0708870181 who organize the trips and diving. It was a one day experience, long boat ride round the island, snorkeling and scuba diving and after went to... we were visiting the famous Shimoni slave caves (used by the Arabs as a slave pen, where the slaves were held before being taken to Zanzibar during the 19C slave trade) when we were told about the Wasini island. Our visit to Shimoni caves ended earlier than expected so we decided to visit the Wasini Island. It was an all... More

Long boat ride to Kisite Mpunguti for snorkelling and a chance to swim with the dolphins then stop over for lunch at local restaurant in Wasini (set on a cliff). Lunch is delicious, fresh seaweed cuisine, seafood and local dishes. The locals are very friendly and full of fascinating stories about this and surrounding islands. One needs to be at... More

This is an extremely long day tour; leaving at 7am and returning at 6pm. I booked the excursion with a local guide - 'Dr Fish' - seemed to be significantly cheaper than some other organised tours. Travel on a boat out to see dolphins in the ocean, then on to Wasini Island to snorkel in the beautiful blue turquoise waters.... More
