Gives you a different perspective on rock carving! Again it's been around for 3,500 years and has a fascinating background surrounding the queen who built it. Too involved to go into it but it is worth reading up on.
The temple stands against the low hills and, from a distance, almost seems to be too modern for ancient Egypt but, it isn't!
There are more elaborate and extensive sites but for us this had a different quality - perhaps it's the female touch - but still a great visit.

This temple is somewhat unique. Not as massive or impressive as Luxor or Karnak Temple, but attractive. The fist level is closed, the second level is mainly reliefs depicting the Ethiopian Excursion. The top, third level has a little more to see. Know that there is a fairly long walk up steps directly in the sun. I saw many older people struggling on the climb on a very hot day.
It is not far from the Valley of the Kings tombs, and is included in most tour groups. But if you are tight on time, I would skip this one.

From the first moment I sighted the temple from the road in, I was just amazed at the sheer grandeur of the setting.
Unlike the tombs in The Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's Temple lies above ground and just commands you to look at it.
The setting of The Temple with the magnificent high cliffs backdrop is one of the most awesome things I have seen...it literally took my breath away.
Situated fairly close to the city of Luxor, it was my highlight of all the magnificent sites in the Luxor area.

We headed to the Temple of Hatshepsut, a colonnaded structure surrounded by cliffs and of course learned about the life of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt’s longest-reigning female ruler. This is a very interesting temple as it seems somewhat not fitting with the structures we have already seen and almost has a more modern look. It was also another fascinating temple to explore with wonderful statues and hieroglyphic drawings.

The temple is definitely an imposing, built on 3 terraces with a mountain behind it. Hatsheput tomb is actually directly behind the mountain in the valley of the kings.

You must simply visit if doing the valley of the kings. Look at the pictures and you will see why.

I loved this Temple for its sheer size, fact that it was cut in the mountain, and is exclusively dedicated to the only female Pharaoh. I enjoyed learning about this history, Hatchepsut herself, and the relationship to Karnak Temple. It was hot and sunny there so be prepared. There are also a large number of stairs. I recommend hiring and bringing your own guide.

The capacity of the brain to be amazed is infinite, I think. There are so many wonders to be seen on Nile cruise excursions but this one is special. Maybe its because she was a successful woman in a mans world, or just the sheer scale of the temple, I'm not sure. I loved the detail that has been preserved, the painted walls still beautiful today. Not to be missed!
