Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Copts form the majority of Christians in Egypt. This Cathedral is relatively new, having been consecrated in 2006. Its modern Coptic architecture is stunning! Security is visible around the property. Unfortunately, our group didn’t have an opportunity to tour the church due to time constraints.

It is a very worthy stop in Aswan. Beautiful architecture in the orthodox sacral convention. A huge white building with two towers and domes is getting its finishing touches in stages. already beautifully decorated but they are apparently working on future stain glass windows.

Nice cathedral - with a separate place for ceremonies like weddings in a level below the real church. We had a spontaneous guide who explained us nicely the background. Only a pity that for the Christmas and the Eastern period they apparently need to have an impressive military shield around it, not quite inviting to visit it but friendly and easy to pass, at least for Caucasians such as us.

Beautiful church, they are still working on it slowly. The wood doors at the entrance are impressive. They had a wedding the day prior to our tour, the church was set up nicely.

As it is only 30 years in building, like any cathedral it is a long way from complete but still a worthwhile experience. A volunteer docent escorted us through the cathedral (which is actually built on another church below it) and her thoroughness was admirable. Coptic traditions are not well known to most outside of Egypt so from a theological education point of view, it was a wealth of information.
Most impressive is that a good deal of the ongoing building (marble sheathing, stained glass installation, etc) is being done by local volunteers!
The gift shop is also worth a stop. Local artisan creations, guilded icons and tryptica created by local clergy, and many other memorable items are available with all proceeds going to the buildin effort.
Don't miss this one.

It is a modern but huge church. Still under construction. Military checkpoint must go through before entering a volunteer gave us a tour. Very nice. We bought a small item in their gift shop to support the church

A must see on a visit to Aswan. Easy to find it is a landmark with its twin white towers. I was given a guided tour by a charming lady who looked after the little shop in the courtyard. (where I purchased some beautiful little Coptic icons). Big, bright, airy and the wooden panels and carving must be seen to be believed.

We were walking back from the Neubian Museum when we decided to stop into this cathedral. After visiting so many mosques it was nice to visit a Coptic location for a change. At first the security guards seemed reluctant to let us in, but our guide talked them into it. Our guide was a Muslim and this was problematic, but once he showed his guide credentials they let him in. We were greeted by an official guide of the church and she gave us a very nice tour. This is the second largest Coptic Church after the one in Cairo.

A huge white building with two towers at the southern end of Aswan's corniche. Well-guarded by police and military, once inside the compound you feel welcomed by the Coptic believers. There even is a small shop with souvenirs. The lower part of the cathedral is usually open, but the more interesting part on a second level is often closed. Impossible to get information about when it is open.
Anyway the large hall makes a rather sober impression as there are few decorations. It is almost like a Protestant church, but if you walk further there is a big dome with fresco's of Jesus and yes a sun. At the wall where Copts pray you can see a modest icon of archangel Michael.
Well worth a visit.

We made a quick stop and the main church was not open. The people inside opened it for us. It’s absolutely huge despite the fact that it not historical and does not have many Coptic paintings. It is however, convenient to access and an easy way to see the inside of a Coptic Church. This particular church is modeled after the largest Church in Egypt and belongs to the Coptic Church which as a rich 2000 year history.
