One of the highlights of the trip.

A nice respite from the heat and stop over on the way to the Nubian villages. If you look closely you can see some interesting birds and flora. The boat ride to the island is very nice and relaxing.

Gardens on this Island
Jan. 2021 • Couples
This is the Island I think that has on it the botanical gardens, which is listed separately on TripAdvisor. It’s a great place and I highly recommend.

Nice for a walk.but nothing really special for a botanical garden.
Not all threes are marked and feels like a mess inside.

"El Nabatat Island" or "Kitchener Island" is small, oval-shaped island in the Nile at Aswan. It is less than a kilometer long and its width is less than ½ a kilometer. The Aswan Botanical Garden is located on the island.
The collection was begun by Lord Kitchener and cared for since. The gardens  are popular among the local people and tourists, as a place to go for a quiet afternoon away from the noise of the city, and for weekend picnics. The island and gardens can be reached by Felucca that reach the Southeastern side of the small island. From there you walk through the gardens (but of faded glory from the original nature and thought construction) past high palm trees which give shade.

Kitchener rapidly transformed the small 750 metres (2,460 ft) long island into a paradise of exotic trees, many from India, and plants in gardens with view walkways.

Facilities such as toilets are ok. Cafe situated near the market. Exit down the stairs to a falucca!

Kitchners Island with Garden Complex
Nov. 2019
We took an 8 day cruise down the Nile and this was one of our stopping points. While the Felucca ride was fun, my wife and I were disappointed in this Botannical Garden. It had not been kept up very well and much of the infrastructure was in disrepair. Clearly money was being spent on the temples and artifacts so this was not high on the priority list. The idea of a garden for Kitchner was a good one, it has not been kept up to its original status.

Pity about the hawkers

Arriving by felucca the island is extremely attractive. Well laid out gardens provide very interesting walks but the hoard of vendors completely spoil the experience never leaving visitors long enough to be able to drink in the huge variety of plants at leisure.

Amazing garden
Oct. 2019
If you want to relax and take some time off from all of the temples then this is the place to go. Trees from all over the world were brought here and the garden layout is spectacular. I was really surprised that everything grows here.

Botannical Island
Jul. 2019
Botanical gardens on an island between elephantine Island and the west bank of Aswan. Took a row boat from elephantine island. They have a good collection of trees from different parts of the world, mostly from Asia. The date palm trees were really good

Beautiful botanic gardens with trees from around the world
Apr. 2019 • Couples
We sailed to Kitchener Island aboard a felucca to visit the Botanic Garden. Aswan was having a massive heat wave in April with temperatures in the 100s, so we were thrilled to be out on the river enjoying the cool breezes blowing off the waters of the Nile. However the Botanic Garden was a complete sauna but still very enjoyable. There are hundreds of trees from nations around the world along with beautiful flowers and unusual birds. It was a holiday so the island was full of local families enjoying picnics and playing games under the trees.
